Nausea & dizziness on waking

My 40 year old sister in law has periods of dizziness and nausea on waking. Sometimes it can last for a few hours. The other day, she actually fainted. She has had hormone and heart tests which came back normal. She has young children so I'm concerned it could happen when she's alone with them. Does anyone have any ideas on what this could be? She's quite an anxious person so I wondered if it could be a nervous condition.

It sounds like a blood pressure problem. I am a nurse and see this alot where I work. It's called orthostatic hypotension. Have her check blood pressure lying, sitting and standing and see if there is a big difference. It could also be a narrowing of a vein\artery in neck. Maybe inner ear issue too. Have her see a neurologist it may help. Good luck

Thanks Kellie. She has naturally low blood pressure anyway, but I get your point about the inner ear. I'll pass that on. Will also mention the neck.

Hi Darren that's good u are seeing some improvement. I would do therapy too what can it hurt to have someone else with ideas help. It's really up to u if u feel that the exercises are helping and your not in a hurry to get better. Like u have to hurry to get back to work or anything. Try the exercises and see if they work. I heard u have to do them for months to be effective but therapy is a long road too. I am glad u feel a difference. I am going to see a tmj specialist too tomorrow to make sure all my symptoms aren't related to that since I do have tmj.

I have had an inner ear issue for 7 years now but would agree with the other lady. I have just been told I have mild reactive POTS my blood pressure drops on standing. I drink a bottle of water before I get out of bed, I have added salt into my food and drink 3 litres a day oh and if out for long time wear knee high socks all advice from cardiologist.

I have never fainted but mornings can be the hardest.

    Hope this helps
