nauseated everyday, pain after eating.... doctors don't seem interested...

Hello,

Im a 25 year old female. I got my degree in business and planned on continuing to learn with hopes of getting my MBA. I was suppose to take the standardized test and begin working on applications when suddenly I was hit with a list of symptoms. I had been living on my own and these symptoms have forced me to be helped by family members.

Right after thanksgiving, I woke up on Black Friday feeling miserable. I thought I had the flu I had stomach pains and cramps, felt like someone was stabbing me, aches, a fever, loss of appetite, and nausea (like I've never felt before) no vomiting. The fever and aches went away but the stomach pain and nauseous feeling to my stomach didn't. I didn't eat much during this time cuz it was too painful, I ended up going to urgent care. Then I ended up feeling worse and going to the ER about two days later thats when they diagnosed me with Gastritis and led me on my way out the door after giving me a Gastric cocktail to help and protonix to assist. . Meanwhile all my symptoms had not subsided so I went back 3 times to urgent care, the ER again (who made me wait 4 hrs which by that time pains had subsided) and In/out of primary doctors appointments. They said since nothing showed up in the cat scan all they have is Time with me.

GI specialist who did an endoscopy. They found small inflammation in the biopsy of the duodenum, but no inflammation in the stomach meaning no gastritis (by this time I would've been on protonix for 2-3 weeks.  I was still struggling to eat anything without Instant pain. Had another doctors appointment with GI, she told me the inflammation could be from anything.... but if it wasn't for not being able to eat and if I didn't have major pain after eating associated with horrible nausea I would've let it go.

I told her somethings not right lets look more.

so far everything I've had:

1 Catscan-Normal

2 Ultrasounds - (possible fatty liver in the first then two days later said there was not a fatty liver and that is not part of diagnosis)

Gastric Emptying Scan- Normal

1 Endoscopy- biopsy showed inflammation in the duodenum, No ulcer, or signs of gastritis and no H.pylori

Hida Scan- normal (did not give me a %)

manometry and pH study- motility test showed low peristalsis decreased function and hypotensive not as tight as it should be with my sphincter at the bottom with reflex, they said possible auto immune disease  but those enzyme levels weren't elevated additionally that auto immune disease wouldn't even explain why I have pain after eating, and why I feel nauseated

had a recent blood test which showed elevated bilirubin levels above standard, they said its possible Gilberts syndrome which I HIGHLY DOUBT considering everything was normal before... that doesn't explain anything...

Next is an MRI, possible round of antibiotics, and possible

Colonoscopy

I still have pain after eating about 5 minutes after now

I thought it was getting better but every day is different. sometimes worse then others especially if I try to eat out of the norm. I am practically on a BRAT diet (if im able to eat that day).

Im on Zofran for nausea, acid/heartburn- Omeprazole two times a day which I can only do for so long, both of which don't help enough with the pain associated with eating, and upper right hand corner constantly gnawing that increases after eating. I've been getting b12 shots (because im so exhausted even when I don't take zofran) and im on probiotics and vitamins. i think the pain makes me tired a lot as well.

I try to wait and eat so that way I feel somewhat normal during the morning and early afternoon but eventually I have to eat. It helps I lack an appetite. I have lost 20lbs so far, seems like they don't care too much. I was overweight (Not obese) previously but still active and ate well (I was working with a nutritionist and having my blood levels checked every few months to see how things were internally )

Please share your thoughts or concerns,

have you experienced anything like this or someone around you?

I've read and heard from family/friends that sometimes its not till they go in to remove the gallbladder that is when they notice somethings wrong...

my mom had her gallbladder removed in her 30s which had sludge and I believe gallstones, she had attacks and they decided to remove it and she never complained again.

another family friend had issues and had his gallbladder removed thats when they noticed a stone but before all his tests were normal. his pain was gone as well.

There are others who have posted on this forum with similar issues. I’m surprised CT scan hasn’t shown something awry. Hospitals are inundated with patients with gastric issues. Don’t think it’s because they don’t care, just they are finding it hard to cope with the sheer volume of patients, or this is the case in the UK. We also have 4 hour + waits, often with patients being in bad pain. Impossible to get GP appointments these days, so no option but to head for ER.  I hope you get a diagnosis soon.

The catscan was also within the first week everything first occurred. My blood levels have changed. My bilirubin is up. I read a few others where CT scan didn’t not show but who knows. Everyone is different.

Thank you for that, I can see that. I feel the US is very similar. Just so many patients and people.  I just feel I have to fight doctors to make them believe something’s wrong. It becomes mentally draining but I have continue to be my own advocate.

I presume that you are in America ? I ask as some of the tests that you've had may have different labels to ours in the UK....have you had an MRCP ? This is a special MRI off your abdomen , which should at least show if you've got gallstones (unless you've managed to pass them all of course )

if you've not had one , it might be worth asking as it's non- invasive and usually pretty definitive .

    Best of luck .

Thank you for the advise, yes I am in America.

That is the next step for me. I will be doing that particular MRI in a few weeks they said they would give that a shot and that it could show a few different possibility of things on the abdomen area.

I’ve also read people having  MRIs and it being normal. At this point I’m hoping they find something that is fixable such as a gallbladder then I can go back normal!

i got severe bloating and burping for 8 years . before 8 years, i did hida scan - it showed its not working and ultrasound showed no stones. In 2017, ultrasound shows stones. So please do hida scan.

When the HIDA scan showed it wasn’t working did the remove it after or make you wait longer?

Yes I have had the major bloating and burping is so bad too!

I did a HIDA scan and they said it was “normal” never giving me a percentage. That was also over a month ago. My bilirubin levels have increased since then..

I feel your frustration!   It took them 3 YEARS to figure out I needed my gallbladder removed.   That was 15 years ago and I really thought they would be able to do a better job now but from many posts on this site, I don't believe they have.   Part of the problem is insurance companies...they cannot remove the darn thing until they can provide a report that shows something.   Apparently, it takes a while for it to show up.   During the 15 years since my gallbladder surgery, I have have intermittent bouts of extreme pain in my right side, under my breast and in the rib area.   It got so bad during November and December of 2017, I thought I was having a heart attack.   Finally got a scope and the gastro doctor removed 50 CC's of bile from my stomach!   That's a lot.   I felt better almost immediately, but still have a dull pain.   I was convinced they had left some of the gallbladder or a tube or something in me, since it hurt in the EXACT area where the gallbladder was.   Turns out it is a stomach issue.  I take Cholestyramine, which is a powder you mix with water or juice, before I eat, which binds with the acid, which helps keep the diarrhea at bay.   Additionally, the doctor prescribed Omeprazole cap, 40 mg, which is a prescription time-released capsule.  Because of inflammation in my stomach, he thinks I need this to heal.   Before the scope, he had told me to take Pepcid 20 mg, twice a day.   Now I am on double that, 80 mg.   I am hopeful it will help, but not totally convinced the pain is going to go away because I am still hurting.  I REALLY hope they will help you soon.   Like I said, I suffered with lots of what you are complaining about for three years in Houston.   I think you just have to keep going back and asking for help!!   Hope this isn't more discouraging for you but you MAY always have to watch fat intake after they do the surgery.   Good Luck!

oh and when their wages are going to be in their bank of course.

they really could any care less , that’s my opinion anyway and no one will be able to change it I’m sorry to say .

their all liners and they just fob us off to get rid .
