Navicular Stress Fracture, bone graft surgery to fuse the bones

Hello all,

I had a Navicular stress fracture on my foot, and got a bone graft on July 20th. I had ankle issues for over 7 years and none of the doctors were able to diagnose it correctly. Finally, my podiatrist found the issue and put me in a boot right away. I was in a boot for about 3 months prior to the surgery.

After the surgery, I was in a partial cast for 2 weeks, after which they removed the stitches, and put me in a fiberglass cast. It's been tough sleeping through the night due to pain/discomfort but happy to report that the pain is reducing as the days go by. I still have some burning sensation on the foot, and occasional throbbing but nothing that some pain meds can't fix smile

I am coming up on 4 weeks this Friday and I am really hoping that I have my cast for 2 more weeks after that. I have been using a knee scooter to get around the house, and it has been a blessing thus far! However, for the past 2 days or so, my leg cramps up every time I use it. Has anyone else experienced that?

I would appreciate all the tips/support. Thank you!

Been there - a knee scooter makes your life more bearable.  Just be patient with the cramps, I have had three rounds of foot surgery, and when I first start using my knee scooter, cramping starts but gradually stops after the muscles adapt.  Take some magnesium to help alleviate the cramps too. The burning sensations you mention is the nerves in the foot healing - this can go on (not all the time) over 12 months from my experience.  As well as numbness and pain.  It takes awhile to heal and be back to "normal".  Good luck and remember your patience will help you heal.

No probs.  I cannot stress enough that you need to be patient and get a knee scooter as you will be off your foot for awhile and crutches are a pain!
