Nearly two months of hell with this can anyone help?

Hi I hate to bring this to light in a sense as the mere thought of it leaves me tearing my hair out, quite literally. Seven weeks ago, I developed a uti, but think it may have been going on, whatever was wrong for a long time before that, as I had very occasional sharp itching, and partial incontinence for a while now. However I felt unwell and had pink staining, which I googled and found is blood, and a discharge and unpleasant dampness and was up in the night every two hours needing to pee.
I went to see my GP, and he put me on a course of anti biotics, saying it was a urinary tract infection, and that was supposed to clear it up, it didn't. I went back to see the duty doctor, alarmed by now as delays with clearing these things up can lead to problems with the kidneys, the last thing I needed, he put me on another course and took a sample, I still had the bleeding and the discharge and frequent peeing but they told me over the phone it had cleared up.
Obviously this was not the case from my symptoms so back I went and doc examined me this time and found thrush, so I was put on a short course of canesten, but after that I was still experiencing the pink stains and the discharge had got worse and peeing every two hours at night.
I really am at "tearing my hair out" level now as its been seven weeks of it, three lots of treatment have been tried and the swabs the doc took were apparently normal.
What on earth is up with me? I'm going back to see my GP on the 8th Jan and will say look doctor if you have no answers for me as to what this might be and why it refuses to be seen off then can I see a specialist.
As I say, delays with cures can lead to issues with the kidneys and meanwhile something inside me is bleeding and I feel I have a right to know what exactly that is. Its the waiting that's the worst bit, I find, with Xmas and the New year getting an appointment and the delays with them trying courses of treatment which have evidently done nothing whatsoever to cure it, whatever it is.

Quit a pickle , I can 100% identify with you. Mabe this will help you with future UTI's.
i take diflucan with the first antibiotic. Antibiotics kill all the good bacteria in the gut and yeast is left behind to take over causing thrush. It's very hard to get rid of and you have to be diligent and careful not to reinfect the area. Its so annoying when yeast also effects the moth as well. Constant cleaning changing soiled cloths and be sure to wash hands will help. 🎉🎉

Hi, Fiona.
I'm so sorry for your weeks of pain and frustration, I've been there too. Has anyone suggested interstitial cystitis? It's a chronic bladder condition that can be helped with diet changes and medication. It often feels like a (really bad) UTI but there's no infection and unfortunately no cure, but remission is possible with the right treatments. The Interstitial Cystitis Association's website is very helpful, especially for diet tips and treatments you can do yourself. An OTC bladder analgesic can help with the pain and urgency, like AZO or Uristat. I wish you luck and healing!

If I were you, I would insist on an ultrasound of your bladder to determine what is causing the hematuria (blood in the urine), as it will show any polyps or tumours in the bladder if that is the cause. It doesn’t have to be the worst, it can be a small benign tumour or stones. Make an urgent doctors appointment next week. Take care and let us know how you get on.
All the best
Sam

Hi, just a brief update, I've been using natural yogurt and my symptoms have seemingly lessened as a result, but will get doc to check me over on the 8th and perhaps an anti fungal cream for my thumb and lips as they are really ragged still, uncomfortable and painful. I don't appear to be bleeding down there now but there is still a bit of an unpleasant discharge so just as well I am seeing him, and if he says it still looks dodgy I'll request an ultrasound. Take care everyone.

Just a brief reprise, my doctor could see from the email I'd sent the surgery that I was concerned and phoned me ahead of my appt and said not to worry he is going to refer me to a specialist when I see him on the 8th, it will probably mean an ultrasound and I could be seen within a fortnight. He'll also discuss what to do about the fungal thing thats going on with my thumb and my lips, so i feel much happier now. Touch wood its just a benign polyp or something lilke that.

Hope you’re feeling better now. I’m having similar issue but for less than a week. I’ve seen a urologist today and he still thinks it’s uti even though I’ve been taking antibiotics for 4 days and I’m still not feeling 100% and there’s still some blood in my urine.
The urologist suggested for me to finish the antibiotics before seeing him but am still in a bit of pain and am worry sick about what else it could be. Do you have any other updates on how you’re progressing?

PS Might be worth asking your GP if he can send you for an ultrasound or similar procedure as things don't seem to be clearing up?

Hi again, just to update everyone I had my scan today, you know I had been worried it was a polyp or worse, it turns out its "Vaginal Atrophy" which can occur in post menopausal women particularly if they, like me, have not had children or are not sexually active. It's due to lowered levels of oestrogen and can be rectified with Ovestin cream or pessaries.
I feel more should be known about V.A as it can, as in my case, wreek havoc with the water works, cause really unpleasant discharge and occasionally bleeding, all of which I had. Now he did tell me I had a fibroid as well but was very succinct in telling me that had nothing to do with the symptoms I have been experiencing lately and was quite harmless and would doubtless drop off over time.
As it happens I had some Ovesten cream in my cabinet and am due to pick up the pessaries when see the Duty doctor on Tuesday, when I'll also get some cream for the fungal infections I have on my lips and thumb, I have them a lot, they keep recurring.
So atleast nothing major to worry about and hopefuly the Ovestin will address my oestrogen balances again in no time!
