Neck pain before ovulation and a period

Hi,

So over the last few months I've noticed that just before I ovulate I get an achy neck. It starts in my neck both sides under my ears. Then it progresses down into my collar bone and shoulders. It's much more painful on the left side.

This happens for a couple of days then eases. Then it comes back worse and more painful a day or so before a period arrives, this tends to be the only way I know a period will be appearing.

When it happens before the period its a much more intense pain. It starts the same place at either side of neck under the ears but it makes my whole neck stiff and achy, my glands swell slightly and it makes my collar bone and left shoulder very painful. It also causes my neck to crack and creak.

When it's like this it also makes my face ache in front of my ears, in my jaw and around my eyebrows and in my eye sockets.

Does anyone else get this?

I'm currently not on any HRT after an incident with the Femoston I was on causing my BP to spike dangerously high (never had high BP issues before that) and migraines that lasted 3 or 4 days. 1 of the migraines caused a bleed behind my eye due to high pressure. So I'm now dealing with partial sight loss too.

I do think the neck pain is due to a dip in estrogen,im only on cerazette birth control at the minute. I think my body needs the estrogen, but my doctor is reluctant to prescribe as she's worried that's what's caused the migraines and high BP.

I'm hoping to see her in the new year to see what I can have to help.

I am currently taking vit D3, evening primrose oil, B complex vitamin. 😒 Just fed up of the neck pain as nothing seems to ease it, painkillers just mask it, hot wheat packs help a bit as does a hot shower pointed onto it.

I get shooting pains in the side of my neck now be for a migraine attack strikes, also a constant twitch under eye on same side the neck pain is on..I will say these migraines can be very different for every individual, and they can present themselves with or without pain with or without auras.. They can be in your neck , eye sockets..since you had the migraines before it more than likely is still that..I can get numbness on one side of body and face..I have gotten the ice pick migraines at the top of head one side deep into the head quick shooting sharp pain that has lasted hours that would give a quick stab every 5 minutes., lasting many hours..they can be scary ..

Hi Lesley, just seen your post. I'm 40 and started with perimenopause symptoms a year ago. My doctor won't have it's that due to my age mind. My worst symptom is neck and jaw pain and it's really beginning to get me down. The pain does tend to be linked to my period and is always more intense then. It comes down from my jaw and into my neck, shoulders and collar bone. The doctor thinks it's all anxiety related or TMJ, but I think it's hormone related alongside my many other symptoms. I'm taking vitamins and a turmeric supplement, but they don't seem to be doing anything. A lady on here suggested a probiotic might help, so I've ordered some. How are you feeling now? Have you managed to find anything that helps? I agree painkillers just mask it. Heat packs do help me but I feel like I have to have them on it all the time for relief.

hi! it actually sounds rather like cervical pain that also causes cervical headaches ("cervical" relating to the neck area). try being more conscious of your posture and using a low-profile pillow to sleep. and of course consider seeing a rheumatologist or orthopedic specialist.

(I wrote a somewhat related post here; perhaps you might find it useful:
