Need a good Dr. for LS in Northern California

I am 45 year old female who has been recently diagnosed with possible LS . The only area that seems to be affected is on my clitoris so doing a biopsy is sort of a last resort. Obgyn put me on Clob but she really has no idea what she’s doing. She actually sent me home with a prescription of CLOB in a scalp liquid topical form by mistake! Anyway doing research I realize the most important thing moving forward is having a doctor that specializes in these types of cases. I have Kaiser and I’m wondering if anyone has had any luck finding a specialist through Kaiser in California?

I would try the Los Olivos womens' medical group in Los Gatos.

I have Kaiser and I am in CA... but southern CA.

While i have not found a specialist, i have found that my ob/gyn gives me what i need. Though my issue isnt advanced and currently relatively minor.

Go to your primary physician and ask him/her if she knows of any specialists. We tend to want to go to the obgyn because its our lady parts, but maybe seeing a female dermatologist would benefit you as well?

Also, do a quick search in the kaiser website for all the obgyns and call them all. Ask them how familiar they are with this condition.

And check out the lichen sclerosus org web page as well.

OHHHHH and another thing, i dont know where in northern CA, but i DO know that universities tend to provide the most help. UCSF maybe can help. i know its not kaiser, but sometimes we gotta pay out of pocket to get the help we need.

    Good Luck!

I may be in the minority here, but I don't think you necessarily need someone who specializes in LS. First off, there aren't very many. And, second, I think the people who need that are the ones with severe cases. The rest of us benefit from the knowledge of how to proceed generally. The key is not "do they specialize in LS", but are they willing to do literature search and consider emerging findings.

If I were you, with Kaiser, I'd look into finding a Dermatologist who can collaborate with your Gynecologist on your treatment. You might ask some of the nurses at Kaiser, or simply ask your Gyn if he/she could recommend a Derm that they would be comfortable working with to create a good treatment plan. My personal opinion is that, as a discipline, Derm is way more up to speed on LS than Gyn. Although with the issue being your clitoris, I think you need to keep Gyn involved.

I go to a military base for my care and it is set up much like Kaiser...only my docs rotate in and out every few years. This is what I've done...tag team with GYN, DERM, and my Family Practitioner.

I'm not in the military yet my doctors come and go as well. It gets pretty frustrating.

I've decided I have to look for a dermatologist who can deal with gyn issues as my gyn has pretty much disappeared. My derm does not deal with gyn. (He's not the greatest anyway).
