Need a good night's sleep??

I find I can get to sleep after reading for half and hour and then I wake up and that's it. I need an over the counter aid but finding it difficult to find one suitable. I read that Melatonin isn't suitable for the older person and lots of the common makes like Nytol say not to be taken with bladder problems - any suggestions??

Regards

    Hi Jean,

I’ve not slept well for years and like you read for about half an hour drop off and then wake up. Just can’t get back to sleep, sometimes doze off about 5am so not getting much sleep at all. I do take over the counter Nytol (not the herbal ones they do nothing for me) I don’t take them every night just every so often and it is reassuring to have them near by. I have diverticulitis ( an adult type IBS) so my stomach is sensitive but I have never found them to play up my stomach. Just keep to the correct dosage and don’t be tempted to take more than the recommended dose. Lately my sleeping hasn’t been good so tonight I am definitely taking one.

Try not to worry as the more you worry about not sleeping the worse it will be. Not sleeping won’t harm you but it does make you feel groggy the next day!

    Hi Jean,

You can either get 1 a night or 2 a night. They are both exactly the same it’s just that the 2 a night are 25mg each and the one a night is 50mg. I take the one a night or two of the other ones. The herbal ones are in a green box and just don’t work for me. Took a Nytol last night still woke up but went back to sleep. I’ve been taking them for years with no problems but as I said don’t be tempted to double up and keep to recommended dose.
