Need advice!

hi everyone.

just looking for some advice and if anyone has experienced similar.

so ive had what i think is post nasal drop/acid reflux for a few weeks now. im sure ive had acid reflux for quite some time but havent had it seen to as didnt bother me too much but recently ive become very aware of my throat!

i had a cold and cough a few weeks ago now and that cleared up but even before this i was experincing what seemed like a lump in throat and like i have a thin piece of paper stuck down there if that makes sense? this sensation ive had for some time now. but it all seems to be on my left side of my throat. as well as experiencing dripping sound back or my throat and occasionally clicking when im talking and like my throat become tight if i talk alot. i also get acid and stomach ache. but i decided to look at my throat last night and saw what looks like a blister type thing on the back wall of my mouth! i noticed it a few weeks ago and thought it was just veins (couldnt see it very well) but this time i got a light down there and looked. ill upload a pic!!

i also get alot of phlegm and i force burp alot as it seems to ease it slightly. but i do this without even realising now. also last day or so when i breath it feels like it cold air going down my throat!? i must say also i have health anxiety so not sure if this has out to do with it.

any advice would be great. will be seeing GP about this but just curious if anyone had similar. image

    Hi Kayleigh,

Your story sounds very like mine, I had been noticing a swelling sensation inside at the back of my nose, so decided to take a trip to the doctor, he said it sounded like sinuses, and recommended a nasal wash, which I used. I wasn't sick or anything, just very aware of my throat, neck and this swelling sensation, he gave me an antibiotic in case I needed it. 2 weeks later I experienced really bad acid reflux, particularly in the morning, so I decided to take the antibiotics. After finished the course, I experience a fleshy lump on the left side of the very back of my tongue, exactly like food being stuck. So off I went back to the doctors. He worried me, and sent me straight off to an ENT, who said it was a swollen taste bud due to acid reaching the back of the throat. I wasn't convinced so paid privately to go to another ENT for a second oppinion. He confirmed yes, it is a swollen taste bud and sees nothing sinister, but like u, I've been suffering with health anxiety for the past year, and am beginning to feel like I'm conjuring up these symtoms. I would touch my neck constantly, and just be hyper aware I of any strange feeling. I was sent for an MRI before Xmas, and was told there were no abnormalities which is great, however since then the swelling of the taste bud has gone down, thank god, but it took 4 months, and now I'm experiencing dry mouth, sore tongue and gums, so I'm starting to think it's just me worrying. I've never suffered with acid reflux in my life and now I've been on antacids for the past 4 months, and when I run out, i do feel the acid reflux... it's weird. I would say, what your experiencing is acid coming up the back of your throat, or possibly nasal drip, which is effecting your throat and causing slight swelling which is why u have a feeling of food being stuck. Go to your GP, get on ant acids and use a nasal wash, and hopefully your symtoms will settle down...

thank you! the senstation of swelling is exactly how i would describe it. also my left side of my neck feel tender...not to touch but like i have a pulled muscle...(which i dont think i do) im very phlegmy to! always feel it on my throat...like it wants to come out but doesnt. almost feels like a sore back of mu tongue...such a strange senstation. its the thing back of my mouth that had me worried! google is not my friend! says the worst things all the time. i feel like i have alot of fluid back there if that even makes sense. i was at doctors a few weeks ago with what i thought was sinus issues...turns out i have TMJ, but i went cos i was having pressure feeling bridge of nose and cheeks bones...thats subsided now but im wondering if its all nasal drip or something. i get acid alot from certain foods etc. this throat thing has had me panicking which isnt good. ive even got a red patch in mouth on cheek inside, i had same few weeks ago and it went...but ive been worried about it and now the thing back of my throat. i will go and see my GP x

Honestly, the best advise I can give u based on my experience, is stop fretting over it. Just tell yourself, it's nothing serious and you'll e fine... I'm only realising how chronic health anxiety is, and how it can have such an effect on your body. I've been told by my consultant to consider mindfulness to relieve my stress and anxiety, ( if u can believe that)Cause I suppose they can tell right off the bat, that your stressed and anxious... I, like u, googled everything, and I was a right off according to that. I've learned to not google symtoms and just ignore whatever it is, and more often than not, I forget what I was even worried about... You'll b absolutely fine, do go to the doctors, just to get your sinuses sorted, I would get all your symtoms are related to nasal drip 😉. B good and keep me posted

im so fed up with feeling like this. i hate going to the doctors as it is but know that if i dont go ill fret over it and it will just make me feel down. im not even sure what it is if i'm honest. i imagine i have a large lump in my throat or something but know surly id feel pain on swallowing etc. i need to learn not to google as thats my downfall. i hate not knowing what something is. just the things in mu throat freaked me out alot as ive never seen out like that before but then ive never looked. i dont smoke, rarely drink and im only 30!! thanks again for your reply! very much appreciated

    Hi Kayleigh,

Hope your feeling ok... I just thought I'd send u a quick update. I've been to see my dentist and explained what's been going on for the past few months, anyway, in the heel of the hunt, she recommended that I get my bloods done again, as she suspects a possible auto immune disease, so I've made an appointment for Monday to c my GP. Again, I feel fine in myself, but I suppose because of dry mouth and inflamed gums etc, she thinks I might be on the 'cusp' of something. I suffer with aches and pains regularly, particularly in the morning, I developed dry scalp last yr, which cleared up with a medicated shampoo, so I'm just starting to join the dots and wonder if they might be all connected. Anyway, I'll keep u updated... let me know if you've had any updates. 😉

    hi Kayleigh,

just checking in with you, how have u been doing the past few months? have any of your symtoms cleared up? my autoimmune tests came back, and are all negative for any auto immune diseased which is great. the lump on the back of my tongue cleared up for a little while, but is back with a vengeance the last month or so. I'm continuing to take antacids, but don't feel they're helping 😕. I've been doing a little research on B12 deficiency, and am eager to c if my doctor tested me for that on last bloods, because alot of the symtoms associated with that, I have. my B12 was very low a few yrs ago, and I was on B12 injections for about 6 months, but then they said my levels were back to normal and I should be fine. I don't think they've been checked since, and coincidently tongue problems can be a sign of B12 deficiency... awe, I think I might be just grasping at straws these days. I'm back at the doctors this Friday and will ask him about it then, so we'll see. I hope your keeping well 😉
