I am a 48 year old woman. I haven't been feeling "human" for over a year now. The doctor ordered bloods which came back that my white cells and neutrophils were low. They had to be repeated every month for 6 months. Eventually I was seen by the haemotologist who took more bloods and asked me to come back after 6 months. I went back last week, the consultant said that she had hoped my levels would have gone up but haven't. She took more and different bloods this time. She told me that if they come back lower or with any concerns she will organise a bone marrow biopsy. I am a little concerned as my mum is in her 4th year of remission from Lymphoma. Has anyone else ever that these concerns?

Hi. 5 1/2 years ago i was having difficulty in fighting infections and ridiculously low neutrophil counts. was admitted to hospital further tests were inconclusive so i had bone marrow biopsy. eventually i was diagnosed with LGL Leukaemia. this is a rare but indolent disease which if keep neutrophils up and therefore avoid infections can be lived with. Bone marrow biopsy to find out what is going on sounds like right way forward. Good luck.

Thanks for getting back to me Margaret. The strange thing is I feel that I don't take bugs/infections etc. I think I have a really good immune system. That is why the doctors and myself are confused as to why they are low or maybe I do have infections but because I am not off work it makes me think that I don't. I also have fibromyalgia which I blame on everything but I have never heard of anyone having low levels with fibromyalgia. Can I ask what what treatment they are giving you?

initially i had GCSF injections twice a week. Then a few months later I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and went onto Methotrexate instead which worked for both conditions. 5 years later, touch wood, it's still working ( I take 10 MG once a week.. my Neutrophils are now well in normal range.

I hope you will feel better soon. Will You need injections for a while yet even although your levels are ok?
