Need advice - a night out ...

Hi all

am only on day 3 so i don't have a real feel for orlistat yet and how it interacts with my body but was just wondering how you get around a 'treat' of a meal out...

i'm heading out next week for a few drinks and a meal at the pub

Hoping the drinks won't be a problem with the orlistat - but we're out to eat as well. I'm wondering if i eat (i'll try to avoid anything tooo fatty) and don't take a pill with it ... will i be ok ... or will pill i had with lunch, or what i take with following day's breakfast ... 'act' on the naughtier food and cause me a side effect problem ...

and if it does - when will i get tangoed, in your experience? lol

just wondering if it's kinda instant, or next day, or next meal for example ... or does it differ?

Basically i want a 'night off' to look forward to without anything embarrassing happening .. sad

if you think you can stick to a fairly low fat meal then I would say just miss that one pill if you feel that taking the lunch time/breakfast one will take you over the 30g's then don't take any that day, best air on the side of caution if you not sure what you will be eating.

I don't think it does any harm having a meal off and taking the day off the tablets now and again as long as you are fairly sensible. I find I still lose weight. You need something to look forward to but I must admit I'm extra good the rest of the time. Enjoy night out :D

I agree. I've been trying to lose wight for years on various diets and I have learnt you do need to have the odd day off now and then and treat yourself otherwise you get fed up and can end up going off the rails completely. (Which is why I amnow on the tabs smile )

well yesterday i cheated and didnt even enjoy it - it got to nearly 3pm and we'd had no lunch because we were out and went to nearest pub and the menu was ace but REALLy unhealthy - even the soup was full of cheese and came with ciabatta!!

didnt take a pill with fat lunch and touch wood no problems ....

I've only been on the tablets since last Weds but took a day off on Sat. I was going out for a pre planned meal at the Gourmet Burger Kitchen then to the Theatre so didn't want to risk the tablets reacting during the performance

Straight back on them yesterday. I have to get into the habit of taking them though. I keep forgetting the breakfast one, but luckily the breakfast I am having is only about 3g fat so hopefully wont make too much difference.

A word of caution though - I have only ever eaten too much fat on one occasion (my silver wedding anniversay meal - completely forgot and ate half a huge bag of prawn crackers, pure fat!)

I had no reaction un til the following afternoon, so be aware that your body won't react straight away after it, it could be 24-36 hours later

i havent had any slip ups yet so cant coment but my doc told me that if your gunna get a side effect it will be pretty much straight away she said normally within the hour of takin the tablet

no offence but docs dont appear to know much at all

it usually depends on how much you've over done it by as to the urgency of the exit - so if you've over done the fat by a small amount it may not be until 24-48 hrs later you get oily stools but if you over do it by a lot then it could happen sooner and in a far more embarrassing and gross fashion!d

I guess everyone is a bit different. I think best to err on the side of caution rather than find out the hard way

Don't think I'm drinking enough water yet. Need to get a 2 litre bottle, fill it in the morning and make sure it's empty before I go to bed
