Hello fellow hippies - This forum is priceless !!!   I had R THR 5 weeks ago ... Prior to the surgery I was wearing orthopedic shoes, ugly and very expensive - My question is: what are you wearing inside the house ? I have good fitting, sturdy fabric clogs I wear outside - It is the only thing I have and not very attractive ... What kind of shoes should I buy ? I just don't want to wear the orthopedc ones anymore -

I have found for a few years now the only shoes I can wear are Hotter Comfort Casuals . They are not cheap but are so comfortable it's like wearing slippers and last forever .

I have back prob and pain under heel of good foot but these are great and have got more fashionable tha they were . There are shops around the country but you can have a catalogue delivered .

Ps I am not on commission ha ha

    Hi

I agree with Mary.....Thats all I wear now....Hotter ....shoes or sandals.  There aren't many shops in the North East but I usually go by the catalogue.

A little bit of advice....Look at them in the catalogue and then go to their website. I've found that ones in the catalogue that are nice....when I bring them up online they aren't as nice.  The website gives you a better idea but they are the most comfortable ones.

I'm wearing "Easy sandals" in this lovely weather.

I bought them in a sale last winter and kept them for the summer cheesygrin

    Good hunting

Thank you ... I forgot to mention that I am in Holland but will certainly look at their website - there might be an outlet here too ... what are you wearing inside the house?

    Hi Renee

Even if there isnt an outlet there they will still send you a catalogue. I like it to browse through.  Then the website when I've narrowed it down a bit

As dor inside.....I tend to wear last years {or the year beforescheesygrin} Hotter sandals.....they are so comfortable.   I'm not happy in slippers now

My question would be why were you wearing orthopedic shoes? What was the issue there?

After my op I wore slip on shoes in the house as I couldn't bend to fasten anything and I was on my own all day (staying at my daughters but she was at work). Not cheap ballet pumps as they don't give enough support, but something with a normal arch support in.

I haven't been able to twist to fasten a buckle for a couple of year but I can now, at 14 weeks post op, bend to fasten shoe laces! I have OA in my back as well which compounded the problems wink

I have a problem with having very narrow feet and there's very little out there.

Choose something pretty to enhance your new 'freedom'. You can never have too many shoes!

    Good luck xx

    Hi Renee

I just wear normal shoes as before my op.

I wear slippers or flat slip on ballerina style shoes inside and flat with ankle bar for work or going out.

I am 13 weeks today, my sons wedding was at 8 weeks and I wore satin shoes with 3" kitten heels, I had a glittery pair of flats in case but I didn't need them, i wore 3" heels all afternoon and evening with no problem, no crutches and walked from windmill where he got married into village before wedding to see him and have a drink with him and I walked back to windmill which was the furthest I'd walked up to then.

that sounds great .... my friend took me to this shoestore where they sell good shoes - there I was told that my right leg was shorter and that I needed a shoe where they inserted something to compensate for the difference - On hindsight, this was not a good idea - Physical Therapist in hospital noticed that I walked lopsided and that trying to correct my gait prior surgery might have overburdend my good leg (very painful at the moment) - to be honest, walking in those shoes were not comfortable and quite painful - but then I thought it was all part of whatever I was going through ....

      Oh no Renee that's awful.

I was worried I would never be able to wear heels again so at least I know I can even if only on special occasions. I'm still wearing flats but will try my heels again once my leg is stronger, its good, but I know the muscles are still healing around the joint so I'm not taking any chances. Anyway flats are in !!! Thank goodness lol !

Hotters are good though, they do heels and flats in fashionable styles and colours which are also comfy.

Hi Renee I have to tell you what happened to me . On the morning before I went to see the surgeon for my 6 weeks check up I decided to buy some comfortable shoes from Clarks by the time I got to see the surgeon they were killing me. I walked into his room in bare feet much to his amusment. took them back got a refund and got my old comfortable ones mended and wear slippers indoors and sandles outside when its warm.

I wear wedge heeled shoes outside I find they are more stable than  heels, not the high ones, the maximum height I wear are 2 inches, otherwise I wear  sandals.  The ones I wear are Cushion Walk  or Hotter.  They are really comfortable and quite fashionable.  In the house I wear sandals or light flat ballerina type shoes.  Happy shopping!

    Hi Renee,

im not going to say how many pairs of shoes I have (there is probably a forum somewhere for me to make that confession) I'm eight weeks today and wear my normal shoes and Marks and Spencer slippers indoors. Most of my shoes and boots are flat(ish) and I've not had any problems. Geox do nice fashionable and comfy shoes as do Echo and Camper. As someone has already mentioned flats in general are having a moment in the fashion sun so most shops are full of them. Stock up whilst you can! Any excuse. Hope you continue to heal

i have done a lot of medicinal shoe shopping since my op because all my shoes - and i am a serious shoeaholic - were worn down to my limp. for cheaper shoes we have a chain called Matalan here who also do online and have a comfort range that are also funky, mid range I got from Office an am waiting for another couple of months to look for heels in the expensive shops!!!

we can never have too many shoes

      Hi

I nwever thought of Matalan......just stick to Hotter but could do with a couple of nice but cheaper ones as well......Not sure where our nearest one is but that would be easy enought to find out.

      Thanks for the reminder

      Love
