Hi Everyone,
I have Sjogrens and Cutaneous Lupus. Recently i have been getting more yeast infections and its driving me crazy . I wanted to try a probiotic. Is it safe to take probiotics if you have an auto immune ? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I dont want to keep taking diflucan if possible. You are welcomed to PM me . Thanks so much .

Hi Sunflower,
I also have Sjogren's and am constantly plagued by yeast infections. My GP strongly recommended I try a powerful probiotic product newly arrived in Europe from the US. I'm going to PM you the name of the product, but it contained lactobacillus acidophilus, L-glutamine, inuline plus a wide range of vitamins, minerals and herbs.
I took it as instructed but after a week I noticed I was severely constipated. This remained unchanged at the end of the second week, by which time I started to develop extreme fatigue, even though I was sleeping normally. This progressed to very real mental symptoms, mainly depersonalisation, which I hadn't experienced since a bout of depression 50 years earlier. Things got so bad that I actually got lost returning from my office one day, ended up sitting on a park bench - off my route - weeping because I didn't know where I was!
I then went on-line and found a whole community who'd experienced similar symptoms while taking this (and other) probiotics. I researched it further, and as far as I could make out, reactions of this kind can be caused by a sudden proliferation of can. d1da organisms as part of a fight-back. I discussed this with my doctor, who said he'd heard of similar reactions, but not with this particular product.
I stopped taking it and returned to normal in a couple of weeks, and have never dared try any probiotic product again. I gather this reaction is extremely rare, but I'm mentioning it here just in case anyone else takes a probiotic then thinks they're going crazy!
Name of the product following by PM, but I don't think it matters. If you're one of the unlucky few who's going to have a bad reaction I suspect you'll be affected by any probiotic product. I do know that most autoimmune sufferers swear by these products, so I'd certainly encourage anyone to try them.

Hi. I have the same problems. I have Sjogrens also. It seems like I never get off of diflucan. I have taken probiotics but it doesn't seem like it does any good. The last time I had to take diflucan for 4 weeks to get rid of yeast. If anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear them.
