Need advice sertraline withdrawal symptoms.

Mine is a long story of bad side effects with sertraline so after talking to my doctor I decided to reduce and come off the drug. This went OK for me a few things light headedness, brain zaps etc but on the 1st of January my appitite and energy came back. I had lost 3 stone in weight when on sertraline I felt like a new person it was great could do so much more and felt like I had my life back at last. Today is one week after my last tablet feeling good until today, I was in a very smart mercedes garage waiting on my car and after sitting about for 1 1/2 hours I started to shake alot not like shivering but shake and then soiled myself. Sorry to be so graphic but it was very embarrassing and i do hope no one noticed. Has anyone experience if this, being fine for a week then out of the blue shaking and accidents.

Between ciprelex and sertraline I have been on AD meds for over 10 years but the sertraline side effects were so bad I had to stop.

I was like that at first.....for weeks and now one year later....make sure not to take any kind of drug or suppliment....my stomach was so sensitive I have been in a depression and I tried lorazapam only one pill and made me so sick....Went to Dr. And he said to try mertrazapine one pill sent me into a panic state......one you start feeling better don't just do whatever you want because now I feel withdrawal affects from one mertrazapine...so riding it out again.....

Thankyou Allison, thought I was back on track when I started to feel better but just goes to show it must still be in my system and will take a while to get back to normal. The shaking just shocked me today

So for how long you took it and how long lowering the dose? What was the highest dose and the last dose?

Ciprelex for over 10 years then stopped working so started sertraline 50 mg for 5 weeks then up to 100mg for another 4 weeks. Side effects were worst I have ever had causing a bowel problem to get that bad that an opperation is required. Enough was enough for me Reduced over 4 weeks after talking to doctor

Yes, 4 weeks is to short after so many years taking medication for this- I agree wtih Tezes, do a search here and find the right combination for withdrawing.

4 weeks is way too fast to withdraw. Search this site for sertraline  withdrawals will it ever stop' you will get good advice about withdrawing from sertraline and the lasting effects.

i was on 50 mg for two years and have been tapering off over the last six months, if all goes well I should be off it by the summer

    good luck

My doctor advised me how to do it and I know it's too quick but needed to stop as the side effects were so bad for me. I just wondered was it normal to feel so much better for a week then just go pop with shaking and bowel disfunction out of the blue?

Yes you'll see when you read the posts (depending on how quickly people have stopped) that the withdrawals can go on for months/years. Hope this is not the case for you, we are all different

BTW my GP also advised me to stop over 4 weeks and it was a disaster for me hence the revised much longer tapering plan.
