NEED ADVISE PLEASE, HAVE GENITAL HERPIES IN LONG TERM

Hi

Need some advise. I just in last 4 days found out I have genital herpies. I'm in a long term relationship with a great woman, we both have young children from previous marriage. We all get along so well and life is great. We have been together for 10 months all of us are inseprible. I have been faithful and I 100 percent trust her but could she have cheated? Could I have had it previously as I had an outbreak and she said she never did. I'm so afraid of losing all of us over this and possible mistrust as we never have.

Thanks

Any info appreciated

You can both test for HSV-1/2 IgG (not IgM) now and that should tell you who had it first, unless you both had it for a while. It is possible to have had herpes for years and not have an outbreak until now, but it not very common. It is also possible that she has had it for years without symptoms and only transmitted it to you recently (herpes only passes in certain circumstances, not with every sexual encounter). Difficult situation, as nearly any scenario is possible.

Hey thanks will it actually tell you how long? I did look it up but doctors actually say this test is not accurate always. So I could have had for years but it would say I did not so that worries me. What would test say both ways. What is actually reading for long time and short time being infected.

      Thanks

IgG antibodies take up to 3 months to reach life-long detectable levels following infection. If you both test now and one of you is still negative while the other is not, then you'll know who had it first. A positive IgG result now only means that the person has had herpes for around 3 months or longer, so could be for months, years, etc. The test is accurate enough if IgG (not IgM), especially since at least one of you clearly has it.
