Need cheering up after Hemorrhoidectomy

I am exactly 2 weeks post op and I feel so depressed. I have been using suppositories to ease pain when going to the toilet since I got an anal fissure Saturday and I am to stop using them Wednesday. I am so afraid to have a BM without it because today the medicine wore off on the right side and it felt as though it was ripping me to shreds. Pain was 8/10. The inside hurt and the outside stung so bad because my wounds are still healing there. I feel like I am not healing whatsoever. My BMs are all over the place. I feel like I could cry all day long.

3+ltrs of water , Stool softener x2 a day , and 1 teaspoon of metamucil, The trick is to stay soft , and not strain. it will get better. it feels like eternity, but it will get better

hey! I drink 3 liters every day, i'm on a high fiber diet and I take liquid paraffin to help. My BMs are soft so I haven't needed stool softeners or laxatives. I was using lactulose but then I got diarrhea from it and ever since I have a fear of using those things. Tomorrow I have to stop using the suppository so Thursday I need to pray the pain is not bad during a BM. The initial opening to have a BM (even if it's soft) hurts me.

Hemorroidectomy is awful! Do not feel alone because you are not. It will get better! You may not see that right now - I know I did not see that at week 2 - but it will. It takes time. A lot of time. But you will soon get to a point where you begin to feel incremental improvement. Full recovery takes months. Livable recovery is on the near horizon.
Look up my daily journal from summer 2018.
Advice: 1.) Hot baths!!! 2.) Whatever creams work best for you 3.) Ibuprofen 4.) Alcohol in moderation

thanks for your reply! Every single day I wake up dreading the entire day. I haven't been using pain meds because I don't want to depend on them too much. Sitz baths help for a bit (I only have a shower unfortunately) And I have not been using any creams. I kept asking my doctor if he would suggest any cream for the outside to help with the healing but he says it's healing well. I am truly in misery.

Hi Alan! BM means bowel movement. I know very little about my surgery. All I know is that I had a hemorrhoidectomy. I did not even know there were different types of surgery to get rid of hemorrhoids. Where I live I was told hemorrhoidectomy and basically they'll cut it out. Trinidad sucks lol. If I knew I would have been in this much pain I would have never gotten the surgery. I had a fissure after my surgery and I finish my suppository for pain tomorrow. From Thursday I will be in absolute hell with my BM. I hope your surgery goes well!

My doctor told me I can use the suppository for five more days to help with the pain. So that will take me to week 3 post op PRAISE JESUS! The BM pain after surgery is so much worse than having a BM with bad hemorrhoids. Still regretting this surgery. Trying to think more positively but it seems so impossible. Hopefully your recovery is so much better than mine!

hi christy i can imagine your pain...i would like to have the hemroidectomy but at the moment i need more information on it...please keep in contact with me...i have had a thrombosed hemroid in the past and i think i have grade3 or grade 4 hemroids ..its been very difficult struggling with this problem for 15 years..i usually before every bowel movement have to put ky jelly and vitamin e(helps with bleeding) then i squat in a certain position to have a bm...then i have to relax my sphincter muscles to allow the prolapsed hemroids back inside of me..i am from trinidad and would like advice on the doctor/s you saw and the cost of the surgery as well as how your recovery is going..or if possible i can call you if you are from trinidad...

Hi! 15 years is such a long time! I went to Dr. Steve Budhooram at Surgi-Med in San Fernando. He is amazing! And always keeps in contact with his patients via email. I paid $16,000 for the surgery. My recovery was hell on earth. Fainted for a week. Cried for about 2 weeks and then I got a fissure. So for 10 days I used procto-glyvenol suppository and it helped tremendously with pooping pains. After that I guess my fissure never healed and only got worse. I thought it was just the hemorrhoidectomy pains but no. I healed a while ago but the fissure was what was giving me issues. I saw Dr. Steve Smith opposite Skinner's Park next to the bar and he suggested anal dilation because I was extremely tight after surgery. I had the procedure today and tomorrow I'll see if I have any pain while pooping. They are both amazing doctors. You should definitely check them out.

Christy024 WOW!!! $16,000 for that hemorroid surgery?!?! that is unbelievable.
did you have to pay upfront or did they set up a payment plan?
do you know if theyre always that expensive?
I dont think i could afford that 😦 ive just finished my 3rd banding, i pray i dont go broke to pay for a surgery if the banding doesnt work 😦

No payment plan. My dad paid the full amount at the hospital day of the surgery. But I never asked if they had a payment plan. That price almost sent me straight to heaven. I'm still having pain because my external wounds from the hemorrhoidectomy keep reopening after using the bathroom. So my two wounds are open and now the healing process has to start all over again.
