Need help curing BV I have no sex life!

I've tried every thing just about, I've had bv for about 3 1/2 years now it started after I had my first child. The doctor told me to wait 6 weeks for intercourse but I didn't listen so when me and my husband had sex I got this awful smell and I still do. He's smelled it before and almost through up. He thought I cheated and had an STD thats how bad it was and I was so itchy. I got the anti biotics they don't work, the cure lasts about a week and if I shower ornwear panties with out a liner it comes right back. Then I got apple cider vinegar with mothers sat in a bath with it and that did not work but for a few days the smell was gone. I've tried inserting plain yogurt and even douches with peroxide and water and after inserted an acidiphollus pill...nothing has worked and lasted more than a week max I'm feeling really discouraged and trying to figure out how to cope with having bv because I'm not sure it will ever go away! Right now my bv is back and every time it smells worst and worst! And I am so frustrated and irritated in my vaginal area. Why don't doctors know a cure? Why keep collecting our money for antibiotics that they know won't work! Are hospitals really becoming unreliabel ? What should I do????

    Hi there

I'm sorry you are going through this - I've been there too. It completely changes you in every way. But I have go rid of mine for about 1 year now and I had it for many years and the last year was very very bad. No remedies lasted for more than a day or so and eventually I developed IBS which was so bad that I had to change my diet and also added in probiotics. I took them for 3 months and within 2 months I noticed that there was no BV smell. The diet was crucial though because it seems the reason bv happens is due to an imbalance of bacteria in your gut and in order to correct the balance you have to stop feeding the bad bacteria/yeast which eat sugar (alcohol, starchy carbs like potatoes etc) and feed the good bacteria (eat lots of vegetables esp. Green leafy ones). I have written other posts on this with more info but you could start with this if you are eating these sorts of things to see if anything changes. Stress can also change the balance of bacteria but without the right nutrients it is difficult for the body to find balance. Good luck and hope this works for you

You're welcome. Everyone's body is different so it's a case of trial and error but once you give the body what it needs it will achieve that balance. Patience is key here. Mine was a particularly bad case and I did not believe that I would be able to get rid of it. I also used to suffer from cystitis quite often and I no longer suffer from that either. My body was obviously very Imbalanced. I don't know if you've tried the balance activ gel but while doing the diet change and probiotics I used it to keep symptoms somewhat at bay.

From best I can tell from my online read of published medical research, BV usually turns into a biofilm, like the plaque on your teeth.  Unfortunately as you have noticed, antibiotics are unable to penetrate the biofilm fortress without something else to disrupt or dissolve the biofilm.  There is good research being done in this area, and tea tree oil is very promising.  But a major problem appears to be the need to repopulate your body with the good bacteria before the bad guys get a foothold again. There are lactobacilluss supplements you can take to do that.  Tea tree oil doesn't appear to hurt the good guys - lactobacillus, whereas most broad spectrum antibiotics kill off almost everything. The Docs have to do what they have been approved to do, or get sued, so until the clinical trials have been completed to show what works...well we have each other on the front lines to help figure it out.  You and BF may find it helpful to google: BV biofilm treatment research.  Have BF check out the many BV forums and he will discover it is an extremely common problem - an imbalance of our good and bad flora. Make sure to get a regular pap test and check your own vaginal ph balance with a handy otc cheap kit. I have no medical certificate, I'm just another one on the frontlines of this war.  And this war has been fought for eons. But the scientific research is progressing and is very interesting.. Also google: tea tree oil BV biofilm.
