Need help with constipation and movicol please!!

I need some advice or help please.

For the past week and a half i have been very constipated and ended up not going to the toilet for 7 whole days! and by that time i was very bloated so i phoned the doctor on the 8th day and booked an appointment that morning.

The doctor did not say what i was suffering with but he put me onto movicol and said to have 1-3 sachets daily so i have been having 1 sachet. it has worked but not much.

i am only having really small worm-like poops and they are hard to pass sometimes but they are not exactly hard poops. is this normal for the first few days of movicol? i'm really worried.

i am still very bloated, especially after eating or drinking but my tummy isn't exactly rock hard just it doesn't feel 'right'.

does anyone have any advice because i am so fed up with it at the minute. :-(

You need to exercise.  Try some simple bending exercises that target your stomach muscles.  Walking does not help in cases of absence of bowel movements,  so please try something that will stimulate your stomach muscles.  Since you did not go for a week, it would take some time for normal pooping I guess but exercise is a must.   In the meantime, eat soft half cooked vegetables like zucchini, cabbage, cauliflower, okra, green beans, gourds.  Drink freshly squeeezed carrot and orange juice to keep the Vit C levels high.  It's a natural laxative.  Quit dairy, gluten and fried stuff for a while until you get back to normal. Eat soft white rice instead of brown rice.  Brown rice is hard to digest especially if you haven't gone for a long time. Eat chicken soup (no red meat) with shredded chicken, green peas, mushroom, carrots and eggs with a dash of ginger and white pepper. Ginger & pepper help digestion.  Less sodium and no soy sauce please.  Stay away from vegetables that have too much iron and calcium like spinach or  anything that has dark leaves.  Iron constipates and calcium contracts muscles.  Eat slowly so that the food is coated with saliva.  The saliva too helps digest food quickly.   Drink warm water (to check on your hydration levels, drink water until your urine is pale yellow)  Watch your urine.  If the color is bright yellow even though you have been drinking enough water then the string like poop may be a result of liver malfunction. Look for other signs like yellow eyes.  You may Google for more info.  But do not worry, liver can repair by itself.  Just stay away from stuff that causes liver damage. Take flaxseed oil softgel (1000 mg) supplements 2 to 3 times a day. It is a laxative that has no side effect and can help lubricate the bowels so that the exit is not only less painful but less strainful as well.  Movicol takes three days to really get started. So if you have been pooping little, give it some more time for complete elimination.  But please next time do not wait for a week to consult a gastro.  The longer the poop stays in your colon, the harder it gets.  I bet you know that already.  Once the reflex is lost (caused by old poop in the colon), it is hard to retrain bowel movements.  Therefore, use of stimulants like Movicol for a long time is not good either.  So eat healthy.  Our body is tuned to get back to normal just by taking simple measures.  You may have to watch what you eat for a month.  I blame the preservatives and GMOs in food that cause so much destruction.  Next time when there is an absence of bowel movement take a magnesium supplement 250 mg once after dinner.  This should be accompanied by the recommended fiber daily intake for men/women.  It helps to produce bowel movement without depending on stimulants like Movicol.  Good Luck.  Hope you feel better soon.  I had fissures and had to undergo fissurectomy but that did not help.  The only things that helped were warm water, flaxseed oil pills, 1 magnesium (oxide) supplement pill everyday, dairy and glutenfree diet, half cooked fibrous vegetables, canned beans, white rice and no red meat. Pretty much what I have recommended you.  Have been free from colon issues for the past two years now.
