John, have you had unprotected with this trusted partner on a regular basis? If so, when was the most recent?

The most likely thing is a yeast / fungal infection, then a bacterial, particularly if you did anal. Very unlikely to be chlamydia as this is not a typical symptom. Not typical of Herpes either I would suggest.

Most regular / family doctors / GP's would suggest trying Clotrimazole or Miconazole first as they know most initial symptoms are sorted out by using this.

Bad habit: what you may possible find is that now your skin is irritated in this way it may even stay like that, yes the symptoms you see will clear away eventually but your skin can retain a weakness to irritation like this.

So, after sex, clear away throughly, even if you have wet wipes and paper tissues on hand to do this. A shower is best obviously: you also need to get out of the habit of using soap on the head and foreskin of the penis, and that goes for any form of body wash such as shower gel. Too many of these can eventually cause a severe irritation, and the unfortunate thing is once the sensitive skin on the head of the penis develops and intolerance to things like this (there is a whole list of others) it can be very difficult for the skin to recover.

As you say, the soap you have never used before should not be used in your groin region at all - with the safest approach being to use water only to wash the head and foreskin with, then, just as important, is making sure the skin underneath the foreskin and on the head of the penis, obviously, is 100% dry. Which goes back to what you say about cleaning up following sex - impeccable hygiene is the only way to assure healthy skin on the head and foreskin of the penis. I actually got a pack of towelling face cloths that I keep on hand by the bed for 'clearing up' during sexual activity - once you have used them 2 or 3 times simply wash them and meanwhile use one of the other ones.

.... yes I get this too, I frequently wake during the night anyway and when I check the head of my penis after I have ejaculated I have a covering of pre-ejaculate I take it is, that is, even though I follow the clear up routine I have just described.

So, you have to be ever vigilant .......
