need reassurance Amlodipine
Posted , 8 users are following.
I've recently moved and went to sign up with a new doctor - nurse checked my BP and I had to see a doctor straight away - he has prescribed Amlodopine 5mg and I have just taken my first tablet . I have to go back for ECG and other tests in 2 weeks . I am very frightened after reading these posts about side effects. Is there anyone on this drug who has been OK - I already get swollen ankles without this drug but was warned they could get worse , maybe headaches too but was told this would be temporary . Please help reassure me .

Whatever you do DO NOT TAKE Amlodipiene. Why it hasn't been banned I don't know. I took it for 2 months and it has had a devastating effect on my life. It caused increased tissue growth on my chest and I walk around now looking somewhere between Tarzan and Marilyn Munro. Loose clothing only from now on.

I was on amlodipine for over 10 years. I'm very heath conscious so exercising has always been a daily part of my routine. When I first stated taking amlodipine my ankles became swollen but because I was so active the swelling went away and did not return. As many users have mentioned, the side effects slowly take over so I did not realize that the pain under my left breast was radiating from near my stomach. Other symptoms I've experienced are, knotting in my lower and upper intestine, burning in stomach, neck/shoulder pain, burning in left arm, and in center of chest. In fact, the pain cause my doctor to think it was my heart so I had a heart cath but there was no problem with my heart. I'm so thankful for this site because I have decided to stop taking the amlodipine (approximately 4 days ago) and now I feel so much better. As others have mentioned, you may not experience the same problems, but I have read many similar stories about side effects. Hope you find your pathway to better health.

Hi, thanks for well wishes. Yes, I'm on Losartan now. I was off the Amlodipine for a week before having my doctor switch it. During that week, most of the side effects subsided so I knew it was the Amlodipine contributing to my indigestion and other problems. My doctor was very willing to help me find something that would work better.
