Need sertraline advice

Posted , 2 users are following.

I’ve been taking sertraline 25 mgs for about 3 weeks then upped to 50 mgs 3 nights ago/  I’m feeling so angry, mean, rude; don’t care, blocked my bff of 21 years and my niece because they made me mad about something I felt I needed support for and got none!  I just want to throw my phones and watch and computer in the trash! My 7 year old granddaughter is thee love of my life and I’ve even snipped at her!  I went through some anxiety at first on 25 mgs and some moodiness but thought the moods was just me but now again on 50 mgs I just don’t know if it’s still me or the meds making me an awful Tyrant!

Most side effects I would not be too concerned with, but anger/rage attacks I definitely would be. I would go see my doctor asap right away if I were you. It doesn't sound like sertraline is a good thing for you.

I just emailed him.  I do have a slight mood disorder but not bipolar/ I am to start risperdal soon to see if that levels out my moods.  I just don’t know that sertraline is doing anything because this is my old normal behavior... just not sure if it is if I need to bother with it or just go straight to the risperdal/ I’m so confused at this point.  I’ve read so many positive and hopeful reviews on this med and I’m so hoping for a result like those too!

    From my psych doctor:

Absolutely. I would say that irritability is one of the top 3 side-effects that I have had folks bring up. Most people describe it as having a short fuse or feeling like their baseline level of irritability is "just below being p****d off," so it takes very little to push them over the edge into being outright angry.

If this continues or causes you trouble, we can try to figure out how to fix this.

Wow. I'm not so sure I believe that. I know it's a potential side effect, but top 3???

Yah I thought weigh gain would be a top three but when I read a hundred or more reviews before starting this med I read a lot of people that said anxiety was worse before it got better but not so much about mood so I took what he said with a grain of salt.  I’m still feeling some irritable ness but not as bad as when I made the post but I don’t feel as lovey dovey as I do when on celexa.
