Ah bless! BigAlbundy, get your hormone levels checked via a blood test as well as anything else the Dr. thinks is appropriate. Thyroid  hormone (thyroxine) is one that comes to mind. If all is well, then you can just concentrate on the main 4 - exercise, good nutrition, enough sleep and eliminating any negative energies in life for less stress. A fitness expert may be able to help you even more. By the way, I congratulate you on the cycling and coming on here. Shows you are serious. Never ever give up, but also listen to your body, like you are, and act accordingly. Best wishes.

Someone's going to say this so I'll jump in. Do you have brain fog? You'd probably know it if you had ME, but it's good to rule it out.

Congrats on your exercising! I hope you can find out the problem soon.

Yep brain farts I call them lol also been getting hot flushes but weather has been up and down, and since I've been cycling I sweet like mad when doing nothing ie walking dog slowly

Might be worth talking to your doc about a referral to an ME specialist. Although the fact that you can cycle probably means that either you don't have it or if you do it's mild. People can recover from it, I know some who have.

What is your age and when did you last have a yearly physical or see a doctor ?  Have you cut down on the amount of food? When you say "good for you" meals, are you actually eating moderate portions that aren't too heavy on the carbs and sugar? It's possible to exercise, form muscle and lose fat without losing weight, particularly if you are taking in a lot of calories. However, the chronic tiredeness and aching isn't normal.

I have never heard of a male getting hot flushes, but maybe it is common. Agree with previous advice about needing to have a comprehensive blood panel done.

You're off to a great start with exercise, just make sure the food portions are not excessive, watch the carbs and absolutely see a doctor.

Ask your doctor to check your vitamin D levels. Vit D deficiency can cause tiredness and aching limbs and a lot of people seem to suffer from it nowadays.

Re your diet I would start eating food cooked from scratch and throw out the

nutrition bars. A good balanced diet will make you feel better and you will then really know what you are eating. The internet has some really good information on diet and some really bad information as well, but it is worth reading the good stuff.

Aren't Go ahead yoghurt bars loaded with sugar?

Do you like nuts? I soak mine in apple cider vinegar for a few minutes because when they're shelled they gather mould. I think it adds to the taste and nuts are very filling.

BigAl, I eat much more than that and I weigh 127 lbs. But I have very rapid metabolism; maybe yours is particularly slow. Happy to hear you are going to the doctor. Are they having you fast before drawing your blood or will the doctor order the blood test after your visit?

Apparently you aren't into cooking, but real meals would be much healthier for you. You could start small and easy. For instance for breakfast I often have plain instant oatmeal with cinnamon added then add fresh fruit, nuts, a taste of real maple syrup and a bit of non dairy milk. If you eat fish it's one of the easiest things to cook.

I sometimes eat a frozen dinner in a pinch, but am never satified with them.I have a toaster oven and either broil or bake it in that. To broil a piece of salmon takes 8 mintues at most. You can microwave fresh veg's and a sweet potato. No cooking knowledge required and I'm sure much tastier than your ready made meal. Also very easy to control consumption if you keep it simple. Portion of protein, 2 veg and a carb. Easy. Omelettes are very fast & easy also. Good luck!

Georgia, I always read how filling nuts are, but I could eat a whole bag and then eat a meal! I know that is NOT recommended as they are high in calories, but my body doesn't seem to think so. My problem seems the exact opposite of BigAl's. I need a lot of food just to function. Food is like fuel to me, pure and simple. If I don't fill the tank I am out of gas and can't move. Doctors check my blood and say I'm fine as I'm considered thin. I would love ti be able to get by on less, but I can't. Am growing a veg garden this summer so hopefully it will keep the costs down...and it's organic.

Agree with others, check Vit D, thyroid.   And of course dehydration can make us very tired.

A silly test I do for dehydration is pull some skin up on back of your hand. If it stays up, drink more water. wink

What a great test Layne! I just tried it and I'm not dehydrated. I am thirsty though so does it only work when you're very dehydrated?
    • Posted

I'm very thirsty too.  But I'm on nasty drug Prednisone. It raises our blood sugars so I fear drug induced diabeties. But my bloods not too high.  Also dry mouth, which I didn't know about until dentist told me I had. So I notice it now, not fun.

But they say if you are thirsty then we need even more water.

Of course watch the color of your urine, guess that's best test for dehydration too.

Doctors can check your electrolytes as well.

Layne, I'm sure your dentist explained that dry mouth is bad for your teeth. Did he/she recommend anything other than drinking more fluid?
