Need some advice please

I was wondering if anyone could give any tips on what helps with the aches & pains. I am not on any pain prescriptions yet, trying not to go down this road until I absolutely have to sad I have been taking magnesium & calcium tablets for months now & it doesn't seem to be doing anything. I take magnesium baths fequently as well. This seems to help while I am in the bath (nice hot soak) but not in the long run. I also take vitamin D, a multi-vitamin & iron pills (low ferritin) Also, is it normal to just wake up & feel more tired & achey than before I went to bed? I have the normal aches & pains I can deal with everyday, but this morning I feel like evey muscle/body part is hurting, my hands are stiff to open & close them, back of thighs, behind my knees, shins, calfs, shoulders, arms etc... I didn't over do it yesterday by doing anything out of the ordinary. Is this normal to just feel horrible & have a flare up from doing nothing? Any advice would be greatly appreciated....

I really sympathise Pam, sometimes nothing seems to work, not even pharmaceuticals.  Have a try with fresh ginger (you can grate or blitz in food processor and mix with body oil to massage the painful bits of the body, or peel and slice the root and steep in boiling water, then add lemon juice and drink like tea, or alternatively buy good quality ginger tea/teabags from a health food store - it has natural anti-inflammatory properties) Alternatively look at taking curcumin (its the active ingredient in the spice turmeric but the spice only has about 5% active concentration, so capsules are better), there is a new version on the market which is better at being absorbed by the body than previously.  Again a natural pain suppressant/anti inflammatory.  I'm just about to try out a supplement which is used in ayurvedic medicine but have only just ordered it so will be a while before I know if its affective.  Its called Ashwagandha and apparently is good to aid the body in coping with physical and psychological stress, both of which have a bad impact on my pain levels, ie if I'm calm, relaxed and well rested I suffer nowhere near as much pain.  Hope you find some ideas from mine and others suggestions on here to help you.  good luck hon

hi pam I tried to reply to give you some ideas but my post was deleted by moderators.  I was only giving info about herbal/natural remedies but they obviously didnt like it.  I'll see if I can figure out how to message you with the info instead.  Who would have thought typing about ginger would be considered inappropriate!!

Thx for the reply loxie, do you have any of these symptoms as well? Do you know if it's normal to just feel like you have been run over by a truck without doing anything to bring this on? I hate to run to my doctor all the time...

Ahh my original post reappeared after all.  I do understand Pam, the symptoms can range from the weird to the wonderful and back.  My main problems are upper arm pain, which is the worst of the lot and my right arm gets 'leaden' and doesnt seem to have the power to move on its own.  I also get aches and pains in my thighs and lower back.  I get exhausted doing the slightly things - it surprises me sometimes that even after eating I need to go lay down quickly as I'm so fatigued I cant think straight.  Foggy thoughts are another nasty one - I'm not yet sure if they are just because my mind is so occupied with concentrating on the pain and the fatigue gets so bad I cant think properly, or if its a whole independent symptom all of its own.  I can relate to the bit about just feeling 'horrible' - it's impossible to describe the feeling to anyone who doesnt understand fibro - I go shopping for example, then either later that day or the next, my body seems to go into shut down - I hurt, I feel ill, I am utterly wiped out and feel bad all over - hateful isn't it.  Rest and relaxation are the best bet but so hard in our busy lives to not feel guilty about doing nothing.  But sometimes 'nothing' is all we can and should do to get through these flare ups.  Good luck. xx

Hi Pam069 I am unable to take anything pain wise, as Im allergic to opoids. I just use wheat bages hot water bottles. warm shower soak in the bath. Fibro differs from day to day how it affects us. You can wake up 1 morning and be stiff achy all over, and not anotherday fibro is just so variable and it affects us all differently.Fatique lack of sleep are all part of fibro.  you can go to bed, and wake up feeling even more tired and more achy. its all part of fibro and how it affects us. Flare ups can happen any time after illness over doing it going out, and sometimes not doing anything at all. I woke up this morning hurt from head to toe every muscel every part hurt. Its just all part of having fibro Im afraid.stress worry dont help our condition they make it 10x worse.I just take each day at a time get through the day as best I can. I have found for me personally that over the counter tablets dont work at all. I have used things like voltarol again it had no affect at all. Im sure the ladies will tell you what helps and works for them. But what we have to rememeber is what works for one may not for another. its finding out what works for you. fibro is all about trial error on many things its alearning curve for us all. Hope you find what works and helps you. Take care gentle hugs

Fibro throws so many different symptoms at us, that sometimes its hard to know when it is fibro, or something else going on. Anything your unsure about or worried about. its always best to seek advice from a dr just incase something else is going on. 9x out of 10 it is just fibro. but always best to get advice when In doubt.

Hi Pam069. I'm newly diagnosed but had symptoms for a while. I'm not any meds just take ibuprofen or paracetamol on bad days. Hot baths are good for short term aches. I suffer with fatigue, fog brain etc but for me I find restless leg syndrome a real nightmare. Also the pain I have in my neck and upper left arm/shoulder blade  can be unbearable, and sometimes I can barely turn over in bed due to upper back pain. Like you I get stiffness in my hands which is bad for me being an author. I know I have to learn to pace myself but also find it difficult to plan ahead these days. Even the thought of a shopping trip to Birmingham on the train fills me with dread - most women would relish it. I think we have to take each day as it comes and on a very bad day just listen to our body and show ourselves compassion. Give in to the crap days and embrace the good - but don't overdo it.  Soft hug xx

I am doing accupuncture. This was the first time , been three times. It helps me some . Yes, mornings are very bad, but I try to hop up and get out of the bed asmy brain would tell me you hurt ,rest. Once I get moving it helps. I have tramadol for pain, I barely use it as I don't find that it works. I am looking into a pain clinic.

Hiya Pam...Amithriptilyne is  the only med I take for Fibro...gives me a great pain free sleep..- no pain..still feel a tad drowsy waking up...but that sleep is what makes this Fibro manageable for me..only get flare ups now..once  it was just constant  pain almost everywhere and sleepless nights..I take it 7pm before bed..it really does work wonders ( for me..that is,) we are all very different..I take 25 mg...never had it increased either ...started on 50mg but I was like a zombie...all the next day..dropped to 10mg for a while-still not too good but 25 mg is perfect for me..it is actually an antidepressant that works excellent for pain..it numbs the nerve ends and stops the pain from jumping on to the next nerve..hence a very painful body...the antidepressant is probably a lil bonus as most of get depressed from time to time..yes it does knock me out to give me that great sleep which is just sooo needed, to be able to deal with the pain etc the next day..but once I'm up and dressed..I'm fine.....Its great...16yrs down the track..have to be woken up in the morning..but once up and about I'm just fine.....when I was first on them I was like a zombie..but it's like a miracle med for me... it takes a while to settle in. ..also, please remember that less stress is the key to Fibro....be blessed..have a lovely day..:-) xxx)..

     Amithriptilyne .  is a Nerve-pain blocker..with sleep assistance and minor anti-depressant
