But, if you are in the UK, nalmefene is the medication that has been given the go ahead (guidance) for people still drinking. It is hard to obtain UK prescription naltrxone.

Susan,
You have already previously been prescribed naltrexone and Selincro as per The Sinclair Method, and tried TSM, but couldn't stay compliant. You also had a 90 minute phone conversation with myself about it one Sunday evening.
You then came onto this very forum and informed everyone that TSM was a bunch of s##t and that the documentary, One Little Pill, that people donated their hard-earned money to was a also a bunch of s##t and a complete waste of time and money. And this was not long after having a 90 minute telephone conversation with me about it one Sunday evening.
No matter which of the two medications you use, TSM will NOT work unless you remain compliant.
If you were to decide to try TSM again, then it would be very much in your interest to work with a doctor and/or counsellor who can help you maintain compliance and monitor your progress.

Hello Joanna. Yes you are right.I can be obnoxious when under the influence and I apologise for those remarks-but everyone deserves another chance.I will try harder to sort myself out regarding Alcohol. I may struggle but I certainly won't Quit. Thankyou for your reply,I will do as you suggested.

You are right, we have all been there and everyone deserves to receive the treatment that best suits them.
I didn't want you wasting a lot of time for yourself (and others) answering your question about which is best when you have already tried both, and more importantly, really should be getting some one-to-one, face-to-face, physical help.
Forums are great for support, but the person to be helping you with your question is a medically trained person who can get you the help you need.
Good luck.

I remember you telling me that your doctor had prescribed you with both naltrexone and Selincro before, so whether your doctor is too stretched or not, he/she has to be the first person to go to.
You GP can either then prescribe again, or explain why they won't and perhaps refer you to a specialist physician in alcohol care who might.

Hi Susan, if as Joanna says your Doctor has prescribef Naltrexone and Selincro before - then you are very lucky. My doc had never heard of TSM nor these meds and said she could not help me and referred me to ARC. I personally would grab them and take them exactly as they say and with Joanna's help. That seems to be the key - compliancy.
Before I started my Monday to Friday 2 small glasses of wine with a free Sat/Sunday I had started to feel ill and that is not like me. I knew it was alcohol floating around my body ALL next day from my evening drinking and this meant I did not dare drive. I did not like it at all. Quality of life was nil. Maybe have another go at TSM and the tablet coz you can't leave it. But you do get the very best advice on here.
Keep at it.

Hello Sharon.Thankyou for your reply much appreciated. How much do I drink? Given up counting now as long as I have a Bottle of Wine nearby i can get up - do my chores i.e. Looking after a very poorly husband, clean up after him & just try and keep our home clean, his precious Lawns cut precisely as he would do them
. As for my previous Doctor he disappeared along time ago ( I wonder why all the good Doctors go into Farming must be more rewarding ! ?

It seems that you have had a lot of help in terms of meds but they havent quite worked out. Is there no way that you can see a different doctor or get referral to an addictions team? I dont know if you drink all day but is there no way that you can cut it down a little? I genuinely was drinking at least 2 bottles but could manage on one. Do you have any days off? I have never been on meds and while i sing their praises as they work for so many people, some of it has to come from yourself in terms of really wanting to give up. But trust me i know its hard...gave up started gave up started and so it went on. Have you tried AA or any kind of therapy at all apart from the meds? One way or the other its very hard to give up on your own. Try reading Allen Carrs book which teaches you how to see alcohol differently, it helped me no end (coming from a raw vodka drinker). Tonight when i was stressed i would normally have been running to the off licence but instead i ran 10 mins ago to the shop and bought some chocolate. It is hard. Try and cut down a little if you can until you get proper help. Look at every option available, something will help you out of this. I know its hard but keep trying.

Thanks Sharon. At least someone cares.Good to have a positive response.Yes usually the same amount of wine as you - But it keeps increasing unfortunately.Stress is always a trigger for me.Sometimes I just don't bother going anywhere which might cause it because I can't cope without my reward at the end or secretly hiding a bottle somewhere just in case ( How Sad is That ) I haven't had a day off for weeks - use to keep a diary of my drinking now i can't be bothered 😕 Will take your advice. Will only drink one bottle of Wine tomorrow & cut down slowly and be strong instead of weak. A A not for me been there done it too clicky too Religious Which Allen Carr book do you recommend? Looking into his books he has written quite a few. Is Allen Carr an Alcoholic? Good to chat to you & thanks for your advice.X

I know its so hard, the book will really help you if you take it all in and use it for what it is worth.Yes and DO see an addictions counciller. I went to AA but it wasnt for me either but there are other groups that maybe able to help, even your doctor will be able to say whats in your local area. I just know that i have to do this. If you want to so can you, just put the fight in. Cutting down is a great start though! Dont let it go any further...Do it for yourself and get some help of some sort. Like i say if i get that feeling for a drink i read some of the book again and it does put me off. Good luck and let me know how you get on. x
