I had a gastric bypass thee years ago and lost nearly six stone. I have put on two stone over the last six to eight months. I can't seem to stop craving what I shouldn't have. So worried now that I have stretched my pouch and I'm going to put all my weight back on. really would like to hear from anyone who has experienced the same and if they were able to get back on track, thanks Sue

Sue, controlling your body weight is difficult and challenging. Cravings by their very nature result in any determination you might have simply evaporating when you are tempted. Losing weight is your destination but controlling your weight by discovering  ways of overcoming cravings is a the central issue. I've eventually come to terms with the fact that I am "in recovery" so I visit my weight control every day. Of course, you should speak to your doctor and get in touch with your community dietitian for advice. But in reality you are unlikely to get any real support. There is no one solution that suits all people. What I aim to do is to  abstain from some "foods" such as all sweets, chocolate, biscuits, cakes, sugared breakfast cereal and added sugar. Nuts are good for you but 200g of cashew nuts provide 1200kcal. Who would eat three nuts? I love chocolate but 100g of the stuff provides about 20g of saturated fat and about 600kcal. Keep a diary of what you eat and try, try and try again not to eat so-called treats. Oh, and abstain from alcoholic drinks because they bring on an uncontrollable "snack attack". Stick with it, it's not easy bu really worthwhile.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I just feel that I have let myself down. I nearly lost my life when I had the operation as I had a blood clot in my bowel and early died. They had to do a second operation and I was in a coma for four days. Recovery was long and hard, community nurses came to my house twice a day. I was off work for a year. Guilty when I eat things I shouldn't as I know it's wrong. Just need to get back on track

Hi Sue, I am in exactly the same position and hate it. I have been to Cognitive Behavioural groups and they got me back on track for a while but I keep falling off the wagon again and again. I lost 6 stone and put one back on. I am still classified as obese and so want to lose more weight. Some of the things I remember from CBT groups which are helpful are, keeping a food diary and being very strick about filling it in. Eat 5 times a day 3 main meals and two snacks. Don't drink while eating but half an hour before and after and keep hydrated. We often think we're hungry when what we need is a drink. If I find my notes i'll pass on more tips. Good luck D

Hi, thanks for replying. It is so hard to keep on track if you see my reply above you will see what I went through with the operation. I will try some of your tips. I do tend to drink with food so I expect that is really not helping. Support from others is so helpful, thank you Sue
