In summary: It is a very annoying and recurring problem.
Lancing/ward catheters/marsupallizations most of the time give only temporary relief - sometimes for months and if u're lucky for years, but the hole created by them which the gland secrets it's fluids always closes because that's just how the body heals itself - cells continue to grow until it is clogged again.
Medically speaking - the only proven method for permanent solution would be gland excision - but that has risks : if the whole gland and duct aren't taken out (and sometimes doctors can't because it's too deep, too bloody, too risky), then it might reoccur. also there might be substantial pain, swelling, blood clots and permanent nerve damage - that's why if you choose this you will need a REALLY professional doctor to do this surgery who has a vast experience. Some girls on this forum have done this successfully, i'd say most of them, maybe 1 or 2 has nerve damage/it came back.
There is a new surgery that uses co2 laser to burn the gland or cyst or both but it's only done in Italy, it claims to heal for good more than 90% of the problem in one time and it's done under general anaesthesia (there is more info about it on the facebook page of bartholin sufferers).
Whatever you choose - i hope you choose wisely.
I for instance squeeze it easily each time it refills and put 70% rubbing alcohol on the duct, so it functions for longer intervals at a time and doesn't clog (the alcohol prevents clogging and even increases the duct size).
Hope i helped!

No, from my experience (and i think all of the threads i read here and on facebook - and i read them all) it always comes back because of the healing process, it get re-clogged every single time.
The most you can go without it if u're lucky is 5-10 years.
The only definite solution is a surgery to remove the gland & duct - IF you're lucky enough to remove all of it.
If you want to avoid full anaesthesia surgery and make it better for 5-10 years you have to find an experienced dr. with ward catheters..if you manage to hold the catheter in place for at least 6 weeks if will probably be ok for a few years. This procedure is not pleasant but better than marsup/gland excision in my opinion.
