Needing help-Wondering if I could be doing more??

Posted , 5 users are following.

Hi, I was just dx with LS a few weeks ago from my gyno. She gave me a estrogen cream to apply every night, I also purchased Emuaid that I apply every morning. I have a lot of itching and I tear so easy. Sometimes it's from wiping, pooping, sex and sometimes I don't know why it tears. I get it healed and then it happens again. My question is can I be doing anything more to help with the itching and tearing? My gyno said to use the estrogen cream until it heals and then I can stop but from what I have been reading it doesn't go away.

I also am wondering if I need to see a dermatoligist instead of just my gyno.

Thanks!

    Hi Jlb,

I urge you to read, read, read and then read some more. Google scholar is your friend. Dr. Goldstein who is an LS specialist in America has a very informative webinar on utube that you can access and listen to for an hour and 20 minutes and he provides a very helpful overview of this miserable disease. I have just changed dermatologists as the first one was not helping me. The leading treatment for LS now, and the one with the scientific data to back it up, is super-potent costicosteroids and the use of rich emolients to wash with and to use as a barrier as urine can contribute to the problem as well. I urge you to see a dermatologist, or ask your GP for a second opinion and don't delay. Read the research, get the numbers, get your questions lined up, I can't make generalizations about the response of others to the steroid ointments and super hydration with emolients but almost as soon as I was prescribed these treatments the itch went away. You are at the beginning of your journey. This site has dozens of really well informed women on it. Keep on asking. Good luck. And keep reading!

    Hi...

I tried the estrogen cream first, then the doctor prescribed chlobetasal cream. The chlobetasal worked better than the estrogen cream for me. I have a friend who was diagnosed with LS too, her doctor told her to use the Chlobetasal twice a day for five weeks. She said 'it went away'...I have trouble believing that, because I used it for two years with no improvement. My doctor finally recommended the Mona Lisa Touch procedure. If it had been available when I was first diagnosed, I would have done it. As I am now (6 years post-diagnosis) I have lost significant architecture to my labia. I have had three treatments an I finally do not tear anymore. I was like you, anything would tear me, even my underwear sometimes! So I guess everyone is different, my friend benefited from the cream. I went through two different creams and oral hormone therapy with no improvement.

You are beginning your journey and as others have said, you must get all the info you can. You must be armed with as much knowledge as you can get, know pros and cons and, even then, some things may not work for you that work for others. And vice versa.

I was put on Oestrogen cream by my first gynae and after a week my vulva was swollen and splitting, it wasn't pretty!

Dermatologist specialist is what you need really. Steroid cream does the trick for most people but it's a juggling act to get a regime that works for you.

    Very good luck to you!
