You and your partner are both infected? Well, since you both are you wont reinfect one another. As long as you two are open and comfortable with one another then this shouldn't interfere with your love life. I was just diagnosed with genital hsv1 as well and my partner is fully supportive and comfortable with it. It's hard to cope with, but try to think of it more as a skin condition. It's a little more comforting.

My initial breakout started about a week ago. I thought it may have been an abscess because I'm very prone to them due to the fact I have an immune deficiency but I was wrong .. I didn't start taking my antiviral until three days ago because I was stuck in disbelief. So I'd say it's lasted a good two weeks. If I started my antiviral on Monday when there were no sores it would have been gone by now. It's been difficult but I'm more positive that it's hsv1 which is less of the "sexually transmitted disease" since it originated as just a cold sore

The only complaint other then the mental stress that's come with the diagnosis is the fact that every day that goes by your outbreak looks different which is scary and gets kind of painful. my obgyn prescribed me lidocaine cream which is working wonders. Almost makes me forget that they're there.

I agree I'm about 11/2 weeks into my initial ob. I'm curious if your dr told you how long to expect the first ob to last? I'm on an anti viral. I'm so bummed and trying to understand how this happened my partner had no visual signs of anything.

Mine has been going for about 20 days. From what I read of some OB here, mine has been pretty mild, though Long. I have had (gentle) sex twice during ob. Really not a problem, though it does seem to prolong the sores. I was diagnosed with HSV 2 on 17th. Doc Didn't put me on anticirals cuz he said they only work if started right away and only self care i do is stay clean, dry and loose cotton clothes. If I don't have sex again, I think it will be over soon. I suggest to those who want intimacy during ob, make love with underwear on. Lol. Believe me, it's actually kind of nice to put focus on intimacy and other touch, not wam bam intercourse, lol.

I have not heard that about the anti virals. Did you get sick? I got very sick initially. I have a trip in two weeks I'm praying I'm cleared up by then as this trip has been planned for awhile.

It can last up to 3 weeks depending on the severity but my doctor did mention that since it is hsv1 the likely hood of another breakout is unlikely so I guess it's something temporary we have to just deal with ??

,I got sick for 2 days but was over by time I realized it progressed from a bump to a blister and I realized it wasn't a pimple. Lol. Mild fever, chills 2 day headache (I normally get one or 2 mild headaches a yr), body aches, no appetite, fatigued, left buttocks pain shooting down my leg (massage helped).

Yeah they need to be taken before the outbreak begins. I made the mistake of not taken them because I didn't want to believe my doctor. I didn't begin getting sick until about 3 days after I started feeling tingling sensations and noticed a very painful raised bump and then came the swollen glands in my groin. For the past week I've had flu like symptoms and have been a sick mess. I'm hoping this viral medication helps clear this up fast.

Yes absolutely! Avoid any sexual contact while there is an outbreak. Is your partner on any antiviral medication? And as long as you guys have no signs of outbreaks or blistering you're both ok to have sex because you can't reinfect one another

You can take b complex, lysine 1000, & vitamin c everyday. That's what I take for hsv 2 & I have a sexual partner that does have hsv

Transmission hsv1 oral to fenital is more common than fenital to oral, because hsv1 has low viral shed fenitally. However... Since you're both infected, and your initial outbreak has passed, you have antibodies and are somewhat protected. Hsv2 is said to account for only 2% of oral infections. Hope that helps!
