a year and a half ago i got swabbed and was told i had hsv in the er, seen my regular doc a day later she didnt test me just looked and told me as well that it was hsv 2 looking back i found a few things weird (never having a outbreak before or after what they told me was one, my partner never having signs of anything, the fact that the er didnt specify if it was hsv 1 or 2, and my doc just looked and said looks like hsv 2 to me without having seen the results from the er yet) outta curiosity got tested again via blood test and it came up negative for both hsv 1 & 2. SO extra confused i asked my doc how this was possible she just told that she can assure me that their blood test is very accurate and not sure why the er got a positive result. dont get me wrong im very excited that it came up negative but im just at a loss for words how could they tell me positive then negative?!

I no longer have the original results from a year and a half ago, i requested them so i could see if it was hsv 1 or 2 i had but no one still has found them for me.

I am going through something similar and would love to hear others opinions. I tested negative for hsv1 & 2 via a spinal tap (had some other health issues going on so they tested all kinds of infections disease including these). i was told this test of my cerebral spinal fluid is incredibly accurate. ive been with the same partner since before that test and after, they have no signs or symptoms. i recently tested positive for a swab on a small cut on my labia. but the doctor did not think the visual was a sign of herpes. ive now requested the blood test as im getting mixed answers from doctors. basically one saying one test is wrong and thr other is right. the "cut" healed in 4 days, never was a blister, did not scab and i didnt have any of the prodome symptoms ive read about. very confusing and waiting for blood tests. curious if those are negative if its likely the swab was a false positive. or if its positive if that means i was definitively exposed from the tome of my spinal tap until now or if that was a false negative. my partner and i have had unprotected sex with no symptoms well before the spinal tap (and i dont believe he has recently contracted this)... thoughts?
