Negative blood test positive biopsy.

Just a quick survey.

How many of you actually tested negative by blood test but positive by biopsy? I've read that the blood test is 98% reliable.

I've not been diagnosed with celiac but have a lot of symptoms of it. Had a blood test that was negative in august. Just had a biopsy done when I had an endoscopy. Will get the results tomorrow.

I'm the same - nothng showed on the blood test or a biopsy during a colonoscopy and yet I still have symptoms. Doc doesn't know - says I may have mild diverticulitis even though nothing showed up on the test for that ether. I can control it to a certain extnet by eating a lot of veg and not much meat but then I get a few days with all the gluten intolerance symptoms.

I read somewherethat new evidence is showing you can have a gluten intolerance but nothing shows up on tests. Guess I'm going to have to try a gluten exclusion diet but it seems like a lot of hard works at the moment!

That's exactly what I'm gonna do. I'm going to eat clean and gluten free as much as I can from now on. Got a colonoscopy in April. If that's fine then I don't know what is causing my symptoms

I just went to docs for to stop me 'going' so much whilst on holiday and ended up with bowel cancer tests but ended up with Coeliac, very lucky.  Think I have had it all my life, lost a job through 'going' so much over 25 years ago.  I am so much better now. All tests were worth it. If you eat well the diet is easy.

    Hi

i know it's no good eating gluten free then having tests, because it won't show the villi as damaged, you have to eat normally for anything to show the villi damaged and then it may or may not be coeliac, my specialist didn't pick up coeliac but doctors and tests did. The endoscopy showed I had coeliac, flattened villi.

Hi all. Sorry for not getting back sooner. I went to see my gastro doc a couple weeks ago. Said all the biopsy results were fine. He has booked me on for a colonoscopy in April. Said I've pretty much got ibs. Don't know what to do now. Fed up of feeling like this.

I had colonoscopy and specialist said IBS, then to eat wheat brown bread etc, but docs sent me for endoscopy and this showed positive coeliac. Went with that and hey, so much better.  If you have endoscopy andit was negative (as long as you were not eating as coeliac) then maybe it is something else, so sorry can't help more. Now I only eat the brown bread for coeliac and pasta, rice, plenty out there to eat, so maybe try it for 8 weeks.  It really is easy, except for eating out, there's usually something or remember to take something with you for a snack with coffee. Supermarkets are catering for us more now.

One thing though I had to stay off Oats completely for 6 months, then gradually introduce them to see if any change, I am okay with them, though have the ones for coeliac and make up my own muesli, have this most days.

keep well and look after yourself, keep in touch.
