Negative clinic results. What is wrong with me?!

A couple of weeks ago, after my period I shaved to have sex with my boyfriend (of a year - we have unprotected sex) I thought I had a little razor cut as it was sore but after a couple of days I had a look to notice the cuts weren't in a place I shaved so i ruled it out and I went to the shop and got some caneston.. this didn't work. I went to the doctors as they were now like blister/ulcer/sores.. in a panic I asked her if the 'cuts, sores and discharge' looked liked herpes and she said 'not really' but she was unsure what it was.. she gave metrondizole and told me to go back if it didn't clear up. After a couple of days I was pulling my hair out and couldn't stop crying as nothing was happening and when I called the doctor she told me to go to the sexual health clinic. The lady there also said it wasn't typical herpes but she somehow thought it could possibly be.. I was checked for everything with an internal swab, a swab on the blister / ulcer itself (extremely painful!) And a blood test.. I was given 5 a day for 5 days aciclovir which hasnt done anything either and today, all my results have come back negative.. does anyone have any ideas? sad

Hi Summer, sorry you're dealing with this!

I don't have much advice other than to say that as soon as you noticed the problem you started putting creams on it without knowing what it was, and have continued to... Could it be a result of a skin irritation from sex that has been aggravated by various creams? I'd be tempted to leave the area alone for a week or so, only wash with dermol or another such soap substitute (and only once a day, and not in super hot water), try not using fabric softener etc or wearing pants all the time and see if it calms down?

Hope you get some relief soon!

Thank you so much for taking the timr to reply, I'm going out of my mind! Well, I know it wasn't the best thing to do, trying to diagnose myself but with a little discharge and tiny cuts I thought it was thrush as I've had it before.. silly me! I did only use it a couple of days before going to the doctor though. I didn't feel any irritation or soreness etc through sex and I had my period and was ok so didn't have sex for a week because if that then it started happening so it came a week or so after sex so didn't seem connected. It's been here for about two weeks, it's just such a random thing, just looks swollen and like sore blisters / ulcers not like clusters of herpes or anything. I cant even find a pic online which is similar.. i have slight dermatitis between my fingers but doctor said that would be because I constantly wash my hands like everyone else.. I'm just miserable not knowing what it is and although herpes is just a bad skin virus I am thankful I don't have it.. I didn't have any of the fluey symptoms or anything that comes with herpes but the pain of the genitals sounds the same.. x

Ah how difficult! I'd still advise leaving it be and removing any sources of irritation for a bit to see if it helps, it may be that you've developed some kind of intolerance to a soap/ shampoo / literally any other product that you use so I'd try and literally go as simple as possible! Even your clothes washing stuff! If you go to a dermatologist that is the sort of thing they will suggest first, so I'd try and see if changing those things to much simpler ones help, maybe Google and see what is recommended? I use dermol myself down there smile this way even if it doesn't help, if you do need to see any further specialists, if they suggest those things you can say you're already doing them and therefore won't then have to wait a few more weeks to see if their suggestions have any effect!

Also keep note of anything you may have changed recently, eg diet, products etc

Next step maybe see a gynaecologist who specialises in vulval dermatology? You might have to have a biopsy I'm afraid to rule out lichen planus or lichen sclerosis.. if you haven't heard of them and you google them don't panic as they sound horrid but they are treatable with the right stuff, if you do google them and think it might be either of those then you need to see a specialist as soon as possible to get that started smile

However!! It may just be a bit of random irritation that still could calm down so don't panic and just look after yourself smile

I realise this reply is very long and rambling so let me know if any of it doesn't make sense!

No, not at all rambling. I really appreciate all the help I can get. Slightly freaked by Lichen Sclerosis but I think I may well ring the sexual health clinic and ask for advice for the next step (my doctors is rubbish so I have to call back Monday to get an appointment) I'm just so fed up of being in pain and things not being right 'down there' sad I'd even kind of come to terms with herpes because the pain was exactly the same that had been described but the pics didnt look the same to me.. very confusing. I've tried to leave it alone now, keep it aired when I can and wash just with water etc x

When the sexual health clinic nurse called me back (yesterday) I menticed lichen sclerosis but she said it looked more acute than that.. she really sounded confused that all of my results came back negative x

It would be a ingrown hair I get them all the time when I shave I'd test again in 3 months just to be sure . Have them do an igg blood test as that's the best.

Thanks for the reply, I really don't think it's an ingrown hair. My vulva is red raw and this blister / sore really stings. It's not even really raised, it's like a blemish on the skin that is so so sore!

Thanks for your input smile Well I've spoken with my friend also who is a nurse and she said they looked like ulcers because they are by no means fluid fIlley blisters.. they're flat on the skin but just sting so much. I had slight lesions at the beginning which is why I thought it was just thrush with the sting but then it got really bad.. today has been my best day yet and it's gone down a lot but I'm confused as to 5 a day for 5 days aciclovir which ended Monday didn't help.. and that treats herpes. I'm still not better off knowing what I have or if it comes back how to deal with it..
