So my prime care dr reffered me to a podiatrist well there was a tear in my Achilles tendon so I was put in a boot waiting on a surgical procedure which was called a blood injection surgical procedure well that was done on March 11 mind u I was taken ouy of work Jan 17 ok 2 days after surgery I was feeling numbness and extreme pain I called the dr he says oh your fine take to gauges off and start walking on it. It went bad the pain tingling numbess was extreme well needless to that dr passrd me on to a ortho dr he puts me in PT for weeks then a cast and so on then finally says I need a nerve study test done . Sure enough I have trauma and nerve damage . I was then passed on to a Neuro dr which was just this month . I jave dealing with so much pain muslce spasum numbness etc . Now iam being given higher dose of gabapentin , now lyrica and amitriptyln . If he can't manage my pain next is pain management . I have lost my job I can't do a lot of things iam suppose to lay with my foot elevated. This all is a nightmare. Never imagined being in this horrible position do to a dr damaging my center nerve in my foot. Does anyone have any insight to my situation ? Thank you

Your problem is a lot more common than you think. I replied to Rebecca here, would be good if you could read this post.

I plead with you to be wary of Lyrica, a side affect is suicidal tendancies and I had them. I really am a feet on the ground sort of guy and never had anything like that. I am going into my 4th year, but my result is from paralized and numb to 4.5 out 5 recovery, so there is hope, eventually.I did post due to an accidental discovery of the help given by ginger, not os much for the pain, but making the pain killers much more efficient. Please read the post and best of luck to you. Warren

Wommy (warren) I just was given the lyrica the 27th how long was it before u started having those thoughts.the pharmacy didnt want to fill it because of the high dosage of gabapentin he is giving me. But he told them fill it. So nerve damage and the numbness cold feeling tingling will never go away ? Iam just so upset because I thought the torn Achilles was being fixed and that dr damaged my nerve with that injection. I feel hopeless lost worthless . I can't do things . I never imagined all this. Is there anything out there to get u thru day and then be able to sleep at night .

Hi, the danger with Lyrica is when you go off it. I was not warned and just stopped. You need something like weeks to wean down. I just want those out there to know the danger. Another thing I want you to know is that should it happen to you, and you KNOW you will never feel better, I have been there and can promise that you WILL go back to normal, steel yourself and don't give in, hard as that is. You can't ask for help because you FEEL that is the last thing you want, nobody to interfere with you. Hopefully you wont need this advice. The pain and numbness will recede to just being an annoyance, I can live with that. The soul destroying discomfort went away after somewhere about 18 months. I know that is a long time, but each day is closer. Being mid 70s I don't have that much time, and no doubt I would be a slower healer. smile

Well I can say that the lyrica isnt working. It has been 5 months sense it was damaged. I walk in a air boot when I do walk because I can't take the pain I can sit with it hanging downiI can't stand very long. Its horrible . Ive never asked for something for pain but I need something to help ease some of it so I can function better. Iam calling tomorrow to let him know that the lyrica isnt doing a thing for me.

I really feel for you Vickie. Check with your GP, but if the Lyrica does not work, it is not nerve pain, even though they say you have nerve damage. I would be asking for a strong opiate, and then reduce if you can. Be aware that reducing the pain does not repair the damage, so treat the area with care, let it wear off daily so you will know if the injury is repairing itself. You say you can let it hang, so that would just about rule out internal inflamation pretty well. Most likely thing, by the sound of it, is Endomysium damage, the covering of the muscles. weakness and pain when under pressure. They would be really bad with weight on, and they are slow healers. So why didthat ppainful nerve study show trauma and damage. And that anything I do it swells up is painful numbness tingling cold . Sorry iam just trying to get thoughts on this because its horrible. Could any of the othrr meds be interfering with what the lyrica is suppose to do ? What is Endomysium ?

Warren so I called my Dr. And he has upped my lyrica I was on 50mg 3×a day . Now its a 100mg 3×a day. Said it takes a little bit to feel the effects. Can I ask when it was you experienced suicidal thoughts. Was it when you were on it or when you were able to come off it. This is just devastating not being able to do anything. I just lay here day after day . I had a appt today and I was in tears by the time I got home. Is there any hope for all this?

Change your Dr Vickie. he or she has no idea of diagnostics. Lyrica works from the first time in less than 15 minutes, I promise you. When my pain got so bad I could stand it no more was on a Sunday, off to the hospital to see the Indian Dr there. He looked at the markings on my back and said Shingles. He gave me one 75Mg capsule and put me on a ward bed. He said the pain will ease in ten minutes, I will check back, and he was so right. We have a lot of New Australian Drs now and they seem to be very proficient. Chinese, Indian and my regular Dr is Egyption. Lyrica doesn't work, not nerve pain. You can let it hang down with the blood pressure in the foot, not inflamation, so nsaids wont work too well. You can't syand on it would indicate damage to the covering of the muscles, Opiates help there. The damage can be caused by the surgeon tearing instead of cutting during surgery. A lot do this, it is easier. My wife had a similar surgery, once again by an Indian, she had no side effects at all. When she complimented him later he said, I take that little bit longer, because I care. As for the suicidal thoughts, they were when I stopped the Lyrica, I had no instrution as to weaning off. I was on 300Mg capsules. That should have taken a couple of weeks to come down, I find out later. But for concern about my wife, I would certainly not be here now. It was the hardest thing to decide to keep going. There is no fear of death, just the fear if somebody finds out they may stop you. That means a true suicidal person would never seek help. Hope this helps you Vickie, I will be here for you whenever you need somebody to talk to that has been there, and knows there is light at the end of the tunnel.

You will never bother me Vickie, don't worry about that, you can talk all you want. I am 76 and have wife, kids, grandkids, and friends, so I have all the support I could ever need. If you read again I said if the Lyrica does not fix it, it is not nerve pain. Lyrica does stop nerve pain and fast. Just for a test, it wont hurt, try 8 pieces of confectionay ginger, with 2 Panadol. Do this twice 4 hours apart, see what happens. I found this by accident due to being greedy with a packet of ginger. At least it cannot hurt you, and may be what you need. Warren
