I'm sorry to hear of your pains. I think it would be interesting to know what approach you had. Was it anterior or posterior or something else? Best wishes, Richard

Hi Gina,
I had hip replacement first one 1993 no problem fast forward to Oct 2013 I was having back pain hard to walk so I went to have my hip check turns out after bone scan my implant was loosening and I went ahead with what they call revision hip replacement. When I woke up from that surgery My left foot didn't feel right felt numb and my calf . Doctor said you just had surgery give things time to heal. 6 months later still in pain back pain foot pain tried to go back to work I couldn't even last 2 hours so back to my surgeon crying he sent me to get EMG test done with a neurologist that showed sciatic nerve damage from surgical site I have been on disability ever since. My question to you is do you have nerve damage?? Have you had any test done

I had a THR right side in May of last year. I ended up with nerve damage, sciatic and have had 2 injections so far. its better but I doubt it will ever be the same. it hurts worse in the mornings after I've been in bed for more than 6 hours and if I sit very long, so I use a standing Vari desk at work and can stand all day without issues. I'm also about 1/4" longer on the operated side which isn't helping the matter.

I had a THR 7 weeks ago.
When I woke from the op my knee and calf were numb. When I asked about the numbness the nurse said it was because of the nerve-block I had for my op. I asked again when I was back on the ward, and was told the same. I told them that I was not supposed to have a nerve block for my op. The doctor came back and said there had been a mix up with the notes. I asked him what the numbness was and he said he did not know.
I was left in bed for three days and no doctor or my surgeon came to see me and everyone else looked scared when they talked to me. When my surgeon came to see me on the fourth day, he said, there's nothing wrong with you, you will be laughing about this in a couple of weeks.
Well it's 7 weeks on, I have fallen down four times, went through severe pain and struggled to even dress myself, and I'm not laughing.
I had an MRI scan, the surgeon said there was no damage to any nerves, but he has still not told me what is wrong with me.
I don't think he knows or cares what is wrong with me, the money he gets for making people suffer, and draining N.H.S. resources.
I will be laughing when he is not a surgeon anymore.
