Nerve pain... any thoughts on Gabapentin ?? Help.

Hi everyone! I am25 years old. I have been posting a bunch about my nerve pain so I will briefly explain my sensations: burning, nerve ache especially hands and arms, bug-like internal movements consistently, pins and needles on and off, feels worst when I actually wear clothes I feel my symptoms more than when i’m wearing short sleeve and shorts. The tests that I did: mri, NCT, EMG, EEG , blood test for any type of deficiency, some neurological blood test for some protein ..all came back normal.
My doctor wants me to try gabapentin and these are the doses ;
Gabapentin 100 mg oral capsule
1 capsule once a daily x3 days
1 capsule two time x 3 days
1 capsule two times x 1 month ..
My question is are those doses okay? Any thought on gabapentin ? Did anyone ever have bad symptoms? Is this safe?
Please let me know before I decide on starting to take it. I appreciate it xoxo

I haven't been here for a while but I'm still taking gabapentin and baclofen and it's still not working for the nerve pain damage.
Any other suggestions?

I would come off both these meds since they don't work. There is no point in them if they aren't helping.

Yes I am tapering off of the gabapentin slowly and instead of taking it 3 times a day I'm down to taking half of the dosage 2 times a day. I'm working on seeing if my neurologist will come up with anything else

I'm not sure if there are any other options. Doctors and specialists tend only to suggest drugs rather than natural solutions.

hey nicole, I have had chronic nerve pain in my abdominal area the past 5 years, probably from hernia repair. I have tried cymbalta, gabapenten, lyrica, topemax, and all the others too. The only effect was weight gain , and had no trouble getting off them. Every one reacts differently, and sometimes the meds do help. I also tried radio frequency ablation, cortizone injections, trial for spinal cord stimulator, sacral plexus injections all to no avail. Even tried cbd oil on the advice from my oncologist, but no luck. Good luck to you and keep on trying to find an answer.

This reply may be late but I have just discovered gabapentin is a very freightening drug for me. I did not know the drug was so dangerous. I have vision changes, taste is gone, very depressed, cant get muscle strength back. Holding a lot if fluid. Hard to get off.

i wish i never took gabrpentin. I was on 3 pills a day for a year. I gained weight 30lbs never been that overweight. Fluid gain. Had weak legs and could not walk. I started waking up with burning in my legs. Now it is in my arms. I am down to one pill at night. i felt hysterical on it. Ithink it messes up your brain plus it increased my blood pressure and heart rate.
Nerve spazzing got worse. I was very depressed on it. VERY HARD TO GET OFF.

My OH was on Gabapentin and then Pregabalin. I would say that neither of them really helped with his pain.
Although he managed to stop taking them some years ago, he is still living with the effects, which I am sure are permanent.
They used to dish these out willy nilly for pain relief, but are now far stricter about issuing them.
This is on our GP surgery website:
"Gabapentin and Pregabalin are now classified as Schedule 3 Controlled Drugs"
I would say think very carefully before taking these.
