I'm going for another attempt at a biopsy today. I didn't sleep well last night and woke up early today. I've got to get through work before my appointment this afternoon.
The doctor gave me pills intended to loosen up my cervix. From what I've read they cause cramping in some people and make the biopsy more painful. Fun times.
At this rate I'm getting really frightened. It's been six months since the last biopsy attempt and the doctor was unable to get the sample due to my anatomy. Since my periods seemed to be getting a bit better, I didn't go for a follow up. Then this last two months I've had extrememly heavy periods with clotting/flooding on about day 10, followed by bleeding almost each day for two months now. I was supposed to have an appointment a week and a half ago for the procedure, but I was bleeding and on my period. When I called the office, they said they'd only do it if bleeding was minimal.
Today and yesterday there is still some bleeding. Hoping it doesn't get worse through the day, especially taking the pills. I just want this to be done and over with, and I'm praying the results show nothing bad. I'm really hoping this is a combination of the fibroid and perimenopause and meds will help. It's gotten to a point where my life is really curtailed.
Wish me luck.

hope it all went well for you. I've had 2 hysteroscopies and a fibroid removed and continue to bleed - cause appears unknown. - I am menopausal.

Well, that was a minor nightmare. I took the misoprostol at 10am. By 10:30 I was hurting so I downed some ibuprofen. Then by 1:00, the pain was back. Fortunately I was off work at 1:30 but within that half hour I was really in pain. I went home, took three more ibuprofen and called my mom to ask if she'd meet me at the doctor's office. She said I shouldn't drive and came and took me. God bless her, I really needed her today.
The doctor still couldn't do the biopsy, and she really tried. She said it seems as if the fibroid has grown and was pretty much blocking my cervix. She said sex would be impossible (Since I'm perpetually single, I'd never know). She's sending me for more images, possibly with a saline infusion, and she wants a D&C for a tissue sample.
She finally agreed to write the birth control pills so hopefully this bleeding can get controlled.
I'm wondering if I shouldn't just elect for a hysterectomy with the D&C. I really wanted to avoid that, but if this thing is growing and it's going to cause me more trouble in the future, maybe getting rid of it all at once is the best option.

Hi Maestra - when she says she wants a D and C for tissue sample, do you mean the biopsy for a sample. I thought D and C 's were no longer done. Why cant you have the fibroid removed and the sample taken (biopsy) under general at the same time ? or is it a fibroid that cannot be removed without hysterectomy. When she says sex is impossible, is that because of the pain only, because sex is not as far as within the cervix, it is to the top of the vagina ! but maybe she means discomfort. Have you tried Esmya the medication that helps to reduce their size - Ulipristal Acetate ? It is also in most cases stops bleeding. Good luck

Shell, The D and C is what the doctor metioned for the tissue sample. She said they can test the tissue right there. I think she wants the additional scans to determine what's involved with removing the fibroid itself without the whole uterus. I've just read so many stories about people having them removed and still not having relief or about the fibroids coming back.
Apparently I have a "small" vagina. I have no idea what that means. Perhaps it's in terms of the length. To be honest, that would explain a lot about my sexual experiences, even before the fibroid became known.
I don't think Esmya is available in the United States. I had one cycle of Tranexamic Acid (Lysteda) but as soon as I stopped taking it the bleeding returned.
