Neuro Dermatitis

I seem to have developed neuro dermatitis great! In the thick of what seems like a never ending peri menopause and this has now joined the very long list of great stuff peri brings!

I remember my mum having this back when I was a kid and she was in her 40's, but back then everything was seen in isolation and it wasn't attributed to her hormones but I believe this is definitely a feature of peri/meno.

Anyone else dealing with this? And how do you deal with the itch - it's a right bugger and it looks awful!

Thanks in advance ladies!

Hope you're all having a good bank holiday Monday (for those in the Uk!)

Sorry to hear but this sort of thing runs in families. However, in the old days the science was slow but nowadays this sort of eczema is treated with steroid cream. Here's some info I found, I hope it helps but go see your doctor for the cream.

Treatment of the lichen simplex may include:

Potent topical steroids until the plaque is resolved (4 to 6 weeks). Occlusion for a few hours after application may enhance efficacy.

Reduce potency or frequency of topical steroids once lichenification has resolved.

Steroid injections every 4 to 6 weeks

    Coal tar preparations

Moisturisers to relieve dryness and reduce desire to scratch

    Cooling creams containing menthol

Antihistamine or tricyclic, eg amitriptyline or nortriptyline, to help sleep

Thanks for the reply Sochima, and the really helpful info. I'll go see the doc but in the meantime I've got some hydrocortisone cream (somewhere!) I'll pop that on and see if it helps with itch which is driving me nuts! Fun times!

      Thanks again x
