    interesting... I don't know if it is coincidence, but my youngest child had chicken pox about the time I had developed symptoms for PMR.  I never connected those two events, because I had chicken pox as a child ( like anyone in our generation before the vaccine) and thought that I was immune to infection.

      As a school governor I was advised not to come into the school if there was a known chickenpox outbreak especially since starting Mr Fred.  I've had both in the past.  Don't want to scare anyone but shortly after start of PMR I contracted Whooping cough!

    Interesting. I wonder if they will find a link between pmr and shingles. I just got over the shingles 6 months ago

      I am  convinced my PMR was caused by the shingles jab.  Had totally clear full blood test on same day and got talked into the jab.  2 weeks later poly pain started in hips progressing to all muscles.  Looked up on line and saw that PMR has been known to start after both shingles and flu jabs for the unlucky few.  Have told my friends to be wary.

      My doctor told me that when you have PMR, you would have more of a tendencyi to get shingles.

      I got shingles two years ago while tapering off prednisone from my initial bout of PMR .... I also got a flu jab this past December and two weeks later I got a relapse of PMR.  I wondered about the connection at the time and I"m thinking more and more like there is one.

      I haven't had flu jab for 2 years and since then have had no chest infections or even a cold. Was very fit.  Will never have one again.  If I hadn't had the shingles jab in Nov I am sure I would not be suffering PMR now.

      Never take any vaccine, especially with live virus, if you are on prednisone. Immune system is weaken and cannot handle it. Besides, compounds added to the vaccine to enhance body reaction to injected virus will also enhance reaction to any other virus that is in your body at the time.

      Good to know ... does that mean that a flu shot enhances the body's response to say, herpes outbreaks, or shingles, or HIV?

      no, it is the oposite what you think. The way I understand, live virus  in the vaccine is weaken, so we dont get sick from it. In order to invoke imune system response, enhancer is added. Unfortunatelly, reaction enhancer that works for vaccine virus, also enhances reaction to other viruses in the body. The problem is, those are not weaken and one can get really sick from them , since reaction to ALL viruses present in the body is enhanced.

      Ok, I get it now.  "Enhancing the body's reaction" it's really "reducing" the body's ability to ward off injury from other viruses.  To me "enhance" meant "improve". Thanks for the clarification.

    so would this suggest one get shingles vaccine? I don't think they will do that when you are on Pred. Maybe at low low doses.....
