Neuropathy, anxiety or something else??

For about eight months I've had weird symptoms that don't seem to really match any conditions.

These include:

  • burning or sore skin on my feet, backside, perineum, genitals, neck and face every day
  • burning, stinging tongue
  • bright red flare-ups on my feet (sometimes triggered by a hot shower)
  • vibrating sensations inside my feet
  • tinnitus
  • a feeling like warm water is in my ear
  • sharp zaps on my feet
  • irritated skin on my feet when my pants rub lightly on them
  • strange feelings like something warm is washing over my toes.

I've seen a dermatologist who was completely puzzled. I had a lot of blood tests done which all came back ok. No nutritional deficiency.

I have a neurologist appointment to check for neuropathy but it's not for another two months. In the meantime I'm going crazy both from these symptoms but also worrying about what they might mean.

I've googled these symptoms and can't find anything that closely matches. I've been wondering if it is all psychological. I know I've had a very stressful three or four years.

It seems hard to believe that it could be anxiety, though. These symptoms don't just flare up briefly when I'm feeling anxious. I have some combination of them all of the time, every day.

I know anything is possible when it comes to anxiety, but can anyone relate to these symptoms? Am I kidding myself by thinking it could just be psychological? Anyone suffer something similar?

    Hey Stu,

If the doctor couldn't find anything then it's anxiety related. unfortunately anxiety causes all sorts of weird sensations. I usually get the same sensations on my hand and arms but do get them on my foot and leg occasionally. At one point I was convinced that my arteries is blocked etc. The more I focus on them the more I realise it and scare myself with what ifs. Did you try exercise or mindfulness at all? I resumed them after quitting both for a while. It does help
