never ending

I'm starting to feel slightly helpless. I've had this PR for over 2 months and new lesions are still appearing, despite being told that they dissapear after some weeks. My GP still thinks it's ringworm, even though a nurse and another GP have confirmed it as PR, it isn't infectious and the anti-fungal creams she gave me are having no effect. I have no idea what to do because apparantly there is no treatment whatsoever, but this doesn't seem to clearing up at all. Even my boyfriend is fed up of it. I was thinking of perhaps asking to be referred to a dermatologist but I'm not sure if theres anything they will be able to do. Does anyone know if there is any sort of treatment that can fasten the process of it clearing up or anything, and how to go about getting that treatment?

    Hi Jenza

We all sympathise with you here; I'm so sorry you're still suffering. The end could be nearer than you think though, it clears up so quickly, when it eventually decides to. There is hope.

I'll copy this from another post I just made..

RE treatments. Some do say that using sunbeds - or sunlight if you can get it - helps to dry the patches, so they clear up quicker. Whether it shortens the duration of the illness as a whole, I don't know. Anti-dandruff shampoo is often recommended. Also E45 cream and antihistamines for the itch. Some people who have managed to get their doctor to prescribe them penicillin together with a mild steroid cream swear it has sped up the process.

Personally, I just don't know if anything can help - when we're desperate we'll try anything and whatever we're using when the PR starts to clear up, we will think has worked.

If you feel you want to see the dermatologist, it certainly won't do any harm. That's one's completely up to you. Don't spend any more of your hard earned money on ringworm treatment, though (my GP was the same as yours at first, I spent £40 on the horrible stuff).

The best advice I could give is pretty useless, but try not to get stressed. This just seems to make the damn thing stronger. I know that feels near impossible right now, but just remember that this awful thing WILL go away and you WILL be back to normal soon.

    Hang in there.

I've had it for over 2m as well, and also have new spots appearing this week, some on my face, too. The spots aren't bright pink/purple/red anymore but they are very flaky, then turn back to pale pink, then flake, etc. argh!
