I always say , if you think you need to go to hospital then go. I would rather go to make sure all is well then sit and worry. I also had shakes and sometimes out of the blue hot flashes. I remember that weeks 4 to 7 was terrible but by week 8 it was like a

Wave of relief. Now don't get me wrong I still had a ways to go and had to up my dose, but I had improved.

What is “health anxiety “ and how is it different from other anxiety?

It use to be known as being a hypochondriac. It means you always think and worry something is seriously wrong with you even though there is not. Some think they have cancer, ms, als, brain tumors, Alzheimer’s and so on and so on!! But it’s really just health anxiety.

Health anxiety is when you think that you are sick or that something major is wrong with your health. This causes stress and then anxiety kicks in. And also you think about death alot.

I think this 5 week setback is very common with a lot of people. It happened to me as well, lasted only a few days then back on track. I think if you had serotonin syndrome you would already be in a hospital. Sounds like your like me and are sensitive to meds! Good luck

Oh thanks joe I love this site so much because ppl can’t just put your mind at ease with their experiences I went to the doctors this morning she did my blood pressure etc said everything was ok when your anxiety kicks in do you ever get goosebumps they all come on the back if my legs once I start to feel anxious xx

I don’t get the goosebumps but I get the hot flashes in my arms and legs plus elevated heart rate when my anxiety kicks in. Which by the way is less and less now thanks to the sertraline. Things will be looking up for both of us very soon!! Good luck with all.

Hi I've just come off sertraline after 6 months of  ''Hell ''frown and have had to go on ''Antipsychotics'' to counteract the ''Drug Withdrawal symptoms'' which again are ''Hellish''. Now I use the word ''Hellish'' as there is, for some people, a very ''Evil'' frown side to this medication mad.

I must admit sertraline can turn off the ''Anxiety tap'', well did for me anyway, BUT if you think your aren't getting on with sertraline, especially after 5 wks, make sure you tell your Doc this in ''no uncertain terms'' and don't let them ''fob you off'' with ''its your ''anxiety'' causing these symptoms so we need to ''double your dose''twisted.

As you can tell I'm a bit frustrated mad with the whole episode especially the with ''Drug Withdrawal symptoms'' which apparently can last monthsexclaim. (coming off non-legal drugs is recognised as ''Drug Withdrawal symptoms'' and can be treated/helped accordingly but coming off ''Prescription Drugs'' is not recognised as ''Drug Withdrawal symptoms'' and seems to be a bit of  a ''Taboo subject'' in the medical profession. I mean, how can these amazing ''New Gen Drugs'' cause more mental health issues than solve, in certain cases kappa.)

The Doc will probably recommend that you go back on sertraline to reduce the ''Drug Withdrawal symptoms, now how ludicrous is that and absolutely no chance in my case, or maybe prescribe Antipsychotics, fighting    ''Fire with Fire''twisted

I do believe though that these things are sent to try us and I'm only going to use it as a positive as the whole experience has brought me back from the ''Darkside''frown.

So, just be made aware, as I wasn't, that the ''Physical'' and ''Mental''  side effects of sertraline are due to ''Chemically Induced Anxiety'' and not our own we just happen to be very ''vulnerable'' whilst experiencing abnormal levels of anxiety!

I've been lucky enough that due to my circumstances, looking after and living with my ageing Mother and terminally Ill Father and only having to work part time, that sertraline hasn't ''destroyed'' my whole world as I know that if I'd of been in a relationship/full time job all of this would have fallen by the waysidefrown.

On the upside my father has been using ''Pure High Grade Cannabis Oilcheesygrin'' yes the illegal stuff, at 72 years old and it is the future, in my opinion, as I have tried itcheesygrin.  And will hopefully put a halt to the ''Pharmaceutical Companies'' cashing in on ''Misery'' with little or no concern about the ''Evil''frown side effects.

(I am in no way promoting ''Illegal drug use'' only expressing that, in my opinion, ''Legal Medical Cannabis'' will bring much ''relief''  to the ''ever increasing'' sufferers of Anxiety Disorderscheesygrin.)

But do try to help yourself as I have, well with help from the side effects of sertraline.

    *Try to:

    1. *stop drinking/abusing alcohol/caffeine as these ''drugs'' induce anxiety. (I very much abused alcohol to help cope with my Anxiety/Depression).

    2. *only eat boiled rice and yogurt for 6 monthslol. (only joking but true in my case sad)

Upside of that diet should be weight loss but due to the ''Chemically Induced Lethargy'' I've put on weightexclaim

redface Sorry about the rant but I been ''shocked'' with the lack of aftercare/research about ''Withdrawing'' from this group of chemicals.

As I said to my Doc ''I understand now why people are Led to Top themselves''.

Sorry this may have swung off topics but hey my brain is fried at the moment eek lol.

To conclude, I so hope that sertraline is helpful to you as I'm sure it is in many other cases wink but take control of your own destiny smile.

    Regards Chris.
