Never had this symptom before

PMR wise I have not been feeling great the last week or two. Overall symptoms have seemed to increase so I have increased my prednisone from 10.5 to 11.5 with slight improvement.
All of a sudden today I noticed pain across my chest and sternum when I breathe deeply.
I am NOT referring to pain in the lungs like when you have an URTI or cough.
Anybody else ever experience this ?

It is called costochrondist (sp). It has nothing to do with PMR. It can be very painful and with some people it's not that bad. There's not really a whole lot you can do about it except put ice or heat on it whichever feels best to you. Of course you will probably want to take ibuprofen or something for the pain. And you want to let your doctor know. It's something that may come and go with you from now on or you may never get another attack after this one's over. You can Google it and find out a lot of information on this condition.

Seems to feel a bit better today so hopefully it will just resolve but was wondering if it was something new related to the PMR.

I wouldn't have thought it was PMR really.

Well, several years ago when doing yoga something popped in my chest. Stupidly I did the same exercise the next day and the same thing happened, only this time whatever I did hurt. I got a lump on my sternum. I asked my then doctor about it, and he said I had dislocated a rib and it should go back into place. But of course it never has. Recently I had to clear ice off car windows, and a little snow. I tried to be very careful as I have PMR and hurt myself (rotator cuff) last year doing this and have never fully recovered. Since that day I am sometimes in agony from this so-called dislocated rib. When I sneeze I always sort of hug myself or it hurts like hell. Scott, I hope you don't have anything like this.

If it is a dislocated rib, which I have had before, a chiropractor can certainly help. I have had this happen several times to myself and my chiropractor has always been able to get the rib back into position. Sometimes, if a person's spine is out of alignment, that can pull a rib or two out of position. Usually no x-ray is needed because the chiropractor can determine what is going just by touch.

Pam, which of your ribs dislocated and was it your chest or your back which was affected? I would really like to have mine dealt with but I fear it's been too long.

Anhaga,
I don't remember the exact number of the rib, but it is usually one of the back ribs. It can be very painful to breathe when this happens. It probably has not been too long, but you won't know until you see a chiropractor. There is a difference in practitioners, so I would get some recommendations, if you don't already have one.

Ah, sounds very different. No trouble breathing, just this painful area on the sternum. Been over four years, I think it was the last thing I asked my doctor about before he retired and perhaps I'd have followed up if he'd still been there - and if I hadn't been about to enter the tunnel of undiagnosed PMR....
Thanks for your advice.

Good news is that it has now mysteriously disappeared just as mysteriously as it appeared so all is good as it pertains to my chest pain.
Now the PMR is a different story :-)
Thanks for everyone's replies.

Depends how you feel I suspect. You are well down into the "adrenals waking up" range. Did your doctor not say anything?
