NEVER lift a suitcase

Hello all... had Rt THR Aug 8th and I was recovering well ..expecting to be back on my horse and riding  now.....   Oh dear.... I went overseas end Oct and been doing my 2 x daily exercises, and gaining strength etc. BUT at airport coming home, lifted my 23 kg case from trolley to check in desk.  I am used to it (before op), humping heavy items etc. Then I had an unexpected long walk - that's another story - OK I had my crutch, but I was carrying hand stuff.  Sittign on flt and gettign up every now an d then I thought Ohhh that feels "stiff/tight".   BTW I had a 4 hr drive  before my 5 hr flt, followed by 3 hr drive from LHR to home.  Oh yes and of course at LHR lifted case from Baggace Claim onto trolley.. BUT nice man lifted it into car!!

After all that feeling really stiff/tight. So that day (Monday) and flwg days no exercises as no easing.... Limped into my physio on Thurs am "What have you done!"  she reckons I may also have twisted the joint....SO... I am now weeks back again BUT strange is that it is the muscle attached to pubic bone that is "spasming" and restricting my walk AND hurts if sneeze or cough.   Plus lots of inflammation around top of leg!  So.. BEWARE, you might think you are doing OK .... but be too cock sure and this is what happens.  So my horse is still "out to grass" and is as unfit now as me!  Seeing Doc this afternoon, so pulled muscle, tendonitis, hernia even?? Or just plain STUPID!

Sorry to hear of your set back...I too learned the hard way...about week 8 I thought I was doing so well I was carrying my l2 pound poodle up and down stairs twice a day and ended up tearing the muscle that wraps around the knee...back to square one with physio, wearing a knee brace and just doing exercises and little else...ok now after 6 weeks!

When I had my first post op I asked my surgeon some questions about mobility, etc. and he looked at me like I was wasting his time and said "ask your therapist"!!!

    Sometimes you just can't win!!!

P.S. Lorraine this is for you as I don't know how things are in B.C. but because I had the hip surgery I got l5 visits to the physio clinic, but since I hurt my knee I required more but because I am 6l (under 65) I would have to pay privately as I don't have any other insurance...sometimes you get stuck between the cracks still!!!

    Hi

Yes its a timely warning to everyone about lifting weights.

Case on wheels and ask someone {I know its hard} flutter eylashescheesygrin I find there are usually plenty of people to help.

Me....Well this is another warning to people in the UK that do physio exercises given to them by the hospital.

The one where you put your hands on the bakc of a chair or table and abduct your operated leg out {slightly} be careful if you have anything wrong with your bones......Osteoporosis or Osteopinia {precurser to Osteoporosis} or anything like that.

I was doing that exercise four weeks post op and there was a crack and I was taken into hospital. Fractured my Greater Trochanter Bone ....that is 10 months ago, still on 2 crutches, and it wont heal beacuse a bit of bone came away and moved up my body ....for a fracture to knit the 2 bits of bone need to be touching.eek  That was an NHS exerciseeek so please be careful ....I'll be on crutches the rest of my life.

    Love

    Eileen  UK
