Never thought about shingles as a possibility...

To make it short and simple.. A few years ago, I had a bought of indigestion from eating some sausge (not a new food to me by any means). They put me on omeprazole which made me nauseous in the morning in the beginning. Sent me for stomach tests which came back normal. I can't remember the exact time line but shortly afterwards I started having a burning pain in the upper right side so they assumed GB due to my stomach problems. Sent me for an ultrasound (normal) and a HIDA scan (98% ejection fraction - debatable as to whether this couldn've been the cause or not). The thing they couldn't understand was that the burning was mainly in the upper right, but radiated lower on my side. By the time I went back in for my test results, the pain was gone and I was human again. No real reason for it but they clearly didn't go further since I was fine.

Now, for about a month, I've had the burning again but mainly in my lower right side. I had a physical about two weeks ago and told my doctor about it, and he unfortunately brushed it off and said if it gets worse to call him. Well last Thursday it got bad and made me panic. It was on my lower right side radiating to my back. I'm also having constant diarrhea and a small amount of heartburn. Called my doctor and they got me in quick, did a urinalysis and everything was good. Told me he didn't think it was anything serious and sent me to the GI again. I have an appointment tomorrow.

What stumps me is that it feels like the burning is on the surface, on my skin or in my fat (I am obese). Not deep down where I would think something GI would be. All it is is a burning sensation. Worse some days, but better most. Mainly on my right side but clearly has radiated - to my lower back, to my upper right side. There are a few small bumps that have appeared that look like small pimples but they're not near each other and it's not abnormal for that to happen (I have one on my chest too where there is no pain). I wouldn't call it itchy at all, but I do find myself itching it as a means to temporarily make the burning go away.

From what I've researched, shingles is pretty definitive, but this "no rash shingles" is a little more random. I haven't heard of any pain moving around/radiating, or having it be mild. I also haven't heard of it just going away for people out of the blue. But I figured I'd throw this out there and see what people think/have experienced.

Also wanted to note that I've had episodes where I went to lay on my side in bed and it almost felt like an electrical shock went through my body starting at my side. I doubt that's GI either but I guess it could be from anything if you hit the pain right. I've also woken up with night sweats before and I've also woken up freezing. Could be due to the sheets/blankets too though, who knows.

      Hi,

Where was your burning? I'm not sure it can be shingles for me because mine is all down my right side, where shingles is usually in one area.
