Never thought I would see the day...

For all hippies waiting and for those recovering this is a message for you. I had virtually all but given up hope of being healthy, fit and well again, and at my age it was really painful to think I would not live a normal life again, BUT I am nearly there if not ACTUALLY there! You could strike me down with a feather, but this operation really DOES work.

This weekend I had my skinny jeans on again (couldnt wear them too tight on the scar) hiking with my girls around the beautiful cornish coast, on the beach in the spring sunshine without a care in the world - hip was fantastic! No limping at all!!!!

Heels on in the evening going out with my family for dinner, and no one would even know I have just recovered from a hip replacement! AMAZED can be the only word I would describe how we all felt sitting there! Brings tears to the eyes just thinking about it.

Is it all worth it? After months of highs and lows, you bet! Keep going everyone....wherever you are in the journey...at some point soon it will all be a distant memory and you WILL get your life back!!!

    Hi Rose

Its so lovely to hear you say this I have been following your story from the beginning when you were so scared and then through the good and bad times and although I havent replied to all your posts it doesnt mean I didnt care. I am so pleased things have turned around for you, you deserve it. I guess I have been quite lucky when I read some people's stories but this site has really helped me too and there are a few members (you included) who have been a great help and inspiration to others and you deserve this happiness .

    Hugs, Julie

aw thanks Julie, that was such a nice post. I am not sure I have been helpful to anyone, but the forum has been a huge support to us all, I am not sure how I would have managed without it at times. I am sure it is repsonsible for so many recoveries.

How are you? Have you had your replacement?

      Hi Rose

I had my right hip replacement on 5th November so am now 4 months post op and doing fine thank you. I even did a bit of line dancing last night but was very careful not to over do it or do the wrong moves!! Onwards and upwards as they say ! Just think in a year's time we will be wondering what we were so worried about!

How lovely that you are dancing!! What a breakthrough moment that must have been...it is so much easier and better now isn't it!

Keep dancing and enjoying your hip ~ thanks for your messages.

    Rose,

Really well done, you have "been through it", and come out smiling lol

I am so jealous of your beach walk without limping.  I'm looking forward to the day I can say that too, I'm sure it's not too far away, maybe another couple of weeks? (I'm at 8 weeks post revision now)

When did you have yours done?

Early December, so I am just over 3 months. I was limping for ages and ages, so I am glad it has gone, you begin to worry after a while don't you...but as Kate says it all comes good in the end, and it does for the majority. You will soon get there Rocket. Just being by the sea was good for the soul, so head down there for a weekend away regardless I would say. It was a shot in the arm, and is very energising.

I would be out walking the countryside, but had a cold a couple of weeks ago, and an awful cough this week, so confined to barracks.

I now have the cough! Hacking away like a chain smoker....just thanking the good lord I did not get this cough on day 3 after the operation! The barracks is quite fitting term given the battle we have just had!! smile

    Hello darling Rose,

I am grinning from ear to ear ... high fiving you or whatever is cool at the moment -

Also happy to read about putting on socks with sock-aid - I still do too, eventhough I can do without - sometimes I do, but still feels stiff and don't want to force anything ----

well done, girl ... can't believe that this is the same Rose from ? ago ...

    big warm hug

I can't quite believe it some days either, I have to pinch myself ~ I wouldn't say I was climbing mountains just yet! Or dancing on tables for that matter, but this weekend was enough for me, and if this is all I could ever do I would be happy. It was the one moment I have been waiting for, for so long.

I am glad I am not the only who avoids breaking the 90 degree rule, I think I might just stick wtih it for a good while longer yet.. just the idea of starting again is enough isn't it!

How is your voluntary work going? Are you managing the days better now?

That's so good to read! Missing my jeans already only 13 days post-op, was dreading asking if heels were ever an option again. Thanks for brightening my day! smile

Quite apart from the swelling, jeans are not the most comfortable with the scar and it takes a while! But it will happen, along with the heels. It will come around quickly (although at times it felt like forever!!) I am glad I took my time, and was careful, looking back that is definitely the right thing for me.
