New and finding it hard.

I have been taking Orlistat for nearly a week and had a few of the Treatment issues to start - but that all ok and keeping well below the daily fat intake.

But.....it is the awful sickness/nausea I feel when I start to get hungry. I have to eat something. I have loads of fat free snacks and veg but the nausea starts soon after taking the first capsule and lingers all day and peaks after each. I am now not eating much at breakfast so I do not need to take that first one and the nausea is not there....

Does anyone have any experience of this and does it improve. The fact I have lost 4lbs is the ONLY reason I am continuing at this time.

sad

Hi Flopsy. I've not heard about the nausea but someone else may have. Like with any medication I would say give it a few days and if it doesn't go away give the doc a call. It could just be the way your body is coping with the change of diet and hopefully settle down.

if you have been experiencing this now for a week or so then i'd book to see a gp or nurse practitioner

as far as i am aware there hasn't been other complaints of nausea when taking the tablets

    hope it stops soon!

Many thanks for replies so far....

Will be interesting to see what Sian_B has said and what the mods want to check.

If it helps, I am a HCP myself (hence the need to loose weight) but also know that I have no other symptoms other than this dragging nausea.

I have read a number of studies and seen many side effects that show about 8% do suffer this - I am sure it is not associated with anything else.

I am trying to find out if Orlistat has any know interactions with other drugs??

    Hi All

If you quote a web site they delete it.

you say you are eating well below the total fat amount for the day. this will probably be why you are feeling so hungry you really do need to try and get as near to the 30g's of full fat as you can as the body needs \"fuel\" to work on to lose the weight. and don't forget the body will break down muscle and store fat if you aren't eating enough.

As for the sickness I would as someone else has suggested speak to the GP about it

after my first week I had an horrific experience, with the other end!!! I needed to change my clothes one day, but after that my body has gotten used to it, and sometimes I think it causes me to go the other way (bunged up) I was advised to come off it for 2 days then go back on again. I know my experiences don't seem to be common either. So I am guessing it is just you !!!! It all settled down by the end of week 2.
