New at prostate.. please help

Hey guys,
i hope this will be fine by everyone as i am here on behalf of my partner (so hoping this is female friendly zone:)), he is very stressed these days with needing to decide on what to do, and i feel like s**t that i cant help.
He has been with a permanent (not self) catheter since out of the hospital its been a month and a half i believe.
Our biggest concern is erection / ejaculation issues. on the other hand one Dr told him that his kidneys are in danger if he doesn't perform a Turp+Tuvp (?) as anything other than that wouldn't be safe enough for later on. another Dr said do laser or try to take meds (since he got nervous about the procedure). he tried one pill one time so far and fainted(!):
I've just read today about Holep and rezume and have no idea.
Any advice would be more than welcome.
Best of luck to everyone.

Hello and welcome.
It is good that you are helping him. So he has a catheter in his penis. Yes sex would be hard with it in.
I don't know about the kidney's and what the problem is but any procedure he has will have done there will be a issue with erections and he will not have any ejaculation. Most doctors do not care about your sex life all they want to do is make you pee better.
What is the percentage that the doctor told him that he will be able to pee again by him self. Most of the time they will say 50 - 50. They never know until it is done but if it does not work then it is to late and he will end up with a catheter in his penis for the rest of his life or he will have to learn how to do CIC.
What pill did the doctor give him most medication for BPH will give you erection problem and retro ejaculation. Holep they core out the prostate that does not mean it will work for him and on Rezum I will not say a word but stay away from it
There have been men that did not want to do any surgery so they had a Suprapubic Catheter put in. It is put in the bladder through the stomach. It has to be changed once a month. This will free up the penis
Good luck....God bless you for helping him.....Ken

@kenneth1955 Thank you so much for this reply.
of course our concerns are with regards to after any procedure.. not for now with the catheter inside:)
the thing with the kidneys is simply because of a long time not letting it all out the creatinine got up to 4 which to my understanding very high. higher than this might risk you with being a dialysis patient.
yet because of the affects on QOL we are looking for any solution.
So i guess my question is if ALL procedures are affecting erection in a high % of men? and if the affect is "only" the retro, do men generally find this frustrating? is it something you can get used to and still have an enjoyable sex life?
Also, do many men resolve this with self cath? is this an option?
Thanks so much.(!!)

When I say "procedures", of course I mean the ones you consider affective. .

Some men do not like the odds of a procedure. He could have anyone of them and it would not work. He will either have a catheter put in or learn how to do CIC him self
Most men will do okay. It depends on how good the doctor is. If a doctor does not know what is going on then he will assume it is the prostate and want to cut it out. You have to get some other options.
There are many procedure that will cause problem. I have know men that have had the Holep procedure and they can pee great now but they did not go into retention but they did lose there ejaculation. Also they are Turps that can leave some of the tissue around the ejaculatory ducts and if there lucky you will not have retro
This is called a ejaculation preserving Turp. This Turp takes longer to do and more doctors do not like to do them.If sex and his ejaculation is a concern then you have to look at everything. He will be the one with the side effects not the doctor
You also have to remember that all men heal different and we all have different concerns. Why should you have to pick between peeing and your sex life.
Good luck...Ken

How old is he? Holep will cause retro ejaculation. Rezum, as far as I have read here, will not cause any RE. However, the long term success is not as good as Holep's.
No prostrate surgery should cause erection issues.

Good morning Ham
I have been on here for over 7 year after my procedure. Over the last 4 I have been keeping track of the men that have had the Rezum procedure. Out of the 106 that had it done. Most only see 45% improvement and out of the 106, 79 ended up with retro. It happen more then the company is telling you. Some it has taking over a year to heal and they still had to take medication and do CIC
I know a few men that have had the Holep procedures and they are able to pee well. They did get retro and they have told me that they orgasms are not as strong has they were before the procedure.
All men are different that is why you need to get more options. Each doctor will have there own results on the procedure. Here are a couple of example's. One guy in Chicago had the Rezum procedure he had 5 injections and he ended up with retro. They there was a guy in California that he had 15 injections. He did not end up with retro. His doctor told him while she was doing it that she was going to stay away from the ejaculatory duct. This way they do not get blocked
Have a great day and be safe...Ken
Research is the key to any procedure

Hi Adi,
There are many variables in the equation. Age, prostate size, overall health etc.
I guess the reason for the catheter was urine retention. In this case the best he can do is learn to self-catheterise.
Long-term Foley catheter or tamsulosin/finasteride may affect erectile function.
Surgery is said not to but it should not be taken for granted.
Rezum and Aquablation are reported to have lower probability of retro, however recovery after Rezum may be long and painful.
Holep has the shortest recovery time and the longest effective period.
Turp has no advantages over Holep apart from its wide availability.
Hope this helps. If you wish to share more details, we may be able to discuss further.
Good luck!
