Hi Jo.   Sounds like you are doing okay.  I'm feeling much more positive since my fill, a week ago now. Knowing much more restriction. I didn't really experience any restriction post op: was drinking fluids freely just after the op.  I found the post op diet harder than the pre-op. I put a couple of kg on between my lowest weight (about two weeks post op) and my first fill, but I have lost that again now, one week post fill.  And I feel much more focused.  The dietician books my fill according to my progress etc. I am with the NHS and the fills are done in the X- Ray dept with barium. My physical recovery was very good with wound healing etc, but I had three weeks off work as I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome as well and I knew it was better to be wise! And I had to give myself heparin injections for the first week, which was no problem as I have daily injections of growth hormone anyway.  I had to wear compression stockings as well: for twenty four hours in hospital and the first week at home. I'm sure its really good to be ultra careful about DVTs in us 'larger' ladies. Hope everything continues to go well.

      Hi

Thats good that you are feeling positive, it motivates the rest of us.  I really like to explain my feelings but also be positive about it.  I've been tired the last couple of days more than usual, maybe down to the walking but i'm enjoying it, its my time I just plug in my earphones and listen to some good tunes.  I'm going back to work on Monday so I've had a week and a half off work.  I'm glad that I took it, I was going to go back after a week, but the work will wait and I needed this time to focus on me.  However glad i'm going back, I have been bored, I have only told a handful of people so thats why I like this forum, sharing experiences with people who know what your going through. I got weighed again this morning and I've lost another 2lb whoop whoop.  I want to lose 4.5 stones.  So now I have 3 to go.  Let me know how are getting on,  once you can get the walking in [good tune essentail, especially motivating ones if you haven't already.  :-) x

Hi everyone. Had my first band fill today 4weeks 2 days post op. Really pleased as I have lost 6kg since op. Fill went fine...not much fun as they do fill, leave needle in, get you to sit up and drink a cup of water to ensure you are ok (at this point I felt really woozy and had to lie down again....but that's me and needles!) then they take the needle out.

For those of you who hasn't had this yet....most don't do it like this....and I am quite needle phobic!!!

Prior to fill had no troubles and not felt any restrictions....just been will power to get to this point.

Anyway, told to go back to puree for 24 hrs before continuing with my 2 week mash stage. Fine until I've over done  tea tonight....pureed but ate too quickly and didn't get any signals till too late and ignored to start with......now bit of pain and uncomfortable. Told will be bruised but liquids gone down too easily and ate without thought.

So warning to other first time fillers.....take it easy, even if you only get 4ml in a 11ml band.

Next fill in 3 weeks (cos in 4 weeks flying off on hols) will have to remember and learn!

      Hi,

You will be fine, just make sure that you have done your research and that you have a good after package that is key! mine is 3 years and the hosital is only 40 minutes away from me.   Everyone is nervous thats normal.  Its not easy, but nothing worth it is.  I have 2 friends who have both lost 10 stones.   It works if you work with it.  Good luck, You wont look back.  let me know how you get on. lol

Hi, my husband was dead against it all the way through the process (I had mine done on the NHS due to health issues and it took 3 years from initial consultation to having the op). I also changed my mind a dozen times. It wasn't really until I started the Liver shrinking diet that both of us really accepted it was going to happen and since then he has been very supportive, even if he does still occasionally mention that he 'liked me the way I was anyway', lol, so I think once you have got all the information you need and have made your mind up fully I'm sure your friend and husband will be right behind you. I've moved on to soft foods now so I can sit with my family and eat 'meals' after a fashion so I am feeling pretty good at the moment, 16 days after the op. I'm looking forward to my future healthy self now and hopefully we can offer you advice and support for the exciting journey you're about to embark on!

I hope your hubby realises your doing this for yourself not for him! I hate it when people say give over you look fine when i comment on my weight. Its not really about how they see you, for me personnally its about learning to like myself again ( 44 days till my band fitted)

I know!! I told my sister y'day ... She's very unhappy about it - I think they are worried about the surgery - I'm not at all ( I've had my fair share of ops!!)

Good luck - keep in touch xxxx

Oh don't get me wrong, I couldn't wish for a better husband and he has been supportive since I had the pre-op. I'm sure many of you will understand though, that a big part of our social life together is centred around food and drink. I'm very shy and not a party person so going out for meals is a shared pleasure that we are both scared of missing out on. However, I have had to live with the otherside of the coin, of all the downsides of being an obese person whereas he just sees the person he married that's still inside this much larger body which is sweet, just not helpful.

Still, on a positive note, yesterday (19 days after the op) I had the first person say to me 'Have you lost weight? You look like you have!' which is fab and hopefully the first of many compliments (no one at all knows I've had it done other than my husband and that's the way it will stay)

      Hi Joanna,

I have only told, my husband 2 of my really good work colleagues and my Boss, 2 of my friends who have had the surgery, my step dad.  I haven't told the rest of my family as I didn't want the hassle, I may tell them eventually say in a year lol!! thing is I went to a family BBQ last week, I had a couple of shakes pre BBQ, noone even noticed that I didn't eat anything.  You dont have to tell anyone until you are ready, its personal.  Jo :-) x
