new burning over scar

Does anyone else have symptoms of burning / itching almost as if it is under the scar? I'm also getting itching exactly where the staple holes were on the skin. I'm five months post op and the last week or so I've felt this. The area around the scar and side of the buttock also feel a bit numb but full feeling has not yet returned, it's a really odd sensation.

I'm almost 8 weeks post THR and have the thigh numbness with a little swelling, too. It is helpful to read that it's not unusual at this time. I continue to elevate and ice at times.

The numb feeling lasted for weeks and months . The sore irritated incision caused from clothing movement rubbing in my case and healing. Both hips went thru THR and revision a few months ago as the tissue heals goes thru various stages. Sometimes a movement will aggravate the incision especially bending down. I found just rest and antiinflammatory meds, ice help calm it down
Your very early in thru the healing process it takes time and patience to get past all the irritating issues of recovery. As long as it is not red, hot or painful it's the normal healing process.
Many healing blessings sent your way😊

Hi Ducksoup,
?No additional redness or temperature. Yes I've got new discomfort / pain and I think it's a mixture of continued healing and the muscles showing their displeasure generally. I laid off doing the prescribed exercises a bit and that did help somewhat, but I'm trying not to not do enough either. Took the dog out in lovely fresh snow today, but oh boy was my thigh and buttock protesting! I guess the trouble is you feel so amazing compared to your pre prosthesis self that you get a bit impatient! In it for the long haul I guess!

Sharon,
?I'm so sorry you have had so much to put up with, but you are some serious inspiration just getting on with it! Clearly you will overcome your current troubles too.

Hi Jools,
Yes, I had burning so badly that I felt like my incision was literally on fire, My doctor send "another" pill to my hospital room and it stopped altogether. I'm sorry I don't what I swallowed but it dang sure worked. Once and for all. Assuming some sort of "nerve" pill, )not the kind our moms took in the 60's!) All the best. And I've had 3 done in 12 months (I really am not a 3 legged homo sapien, the first side was a total failure). Having said that, it's quite interesting that this time I have no feeling yet from the "re-do" on December 30th but I ignore that. Onward and Upward! It's going to be alright.
Blessings to you

I have had 3 new hips in the last 4.5 years, the last one 18 months ago damaged my sciatic nerve. I had horrendous burning on my other thigh for about 6 months, I couldn't touch it, that still flares up occasionally but not so intense. My calf and side of my foot on the operated leg is still quite numb, but at least I can now bend to massage it. I get aches in my buttocks, which is worse the more I move around, but it is better than having 2 broken hips !. I think the main lesson I learned, which no one explained is to keep elevating the legs with ice packs for many many months, not just a couple of weeks post op. I still get swollen ankles especially in hot weather, but appreciate it is just something I will have to live with. We all recover at different paces and have our own lasting issues, but its good to know I am not on my own and read about people in the same situation. I do get strange looks when I say I've had 3 new hips !, but I agree with you and keep looking for the positive as only I can decide how I accept this and live my life with the issues the operations have left me with. Best wishes to you.
