New cast!

I broke my right ankle couple weeks back and had pins and plates put in. 2 days ago I had my cast changed to a tighter fiber glass cast, since then I've had pain in my little toe and on the right side of the ball of my foot. elevated, my toes started to feel strange and hurt when I moved them towards me but not away, I wanted to know if this is normal and will settle or if it's too tight and it should be changed?

Hey, im sorry to hear that you're going through such a horrible ordeal 😦 i would say the first 3 weeks were the worst for me, not being able to do anything pretty much for myself, so things do get better youve just got to learn the art of being patient.

With regards to your pain in your foot, I think everyones circumstances are different and i would definitely report it back to your doctor at the hospital to see whether its normal.

I found that i lost all feeling in my toes as soon as my leg was elevated for more than 5 min which scared me but that sensation has passed now.

I didnt have surgery so i cant imagine how much worse it would be for you. I know you probably hear this from everyone and get sick of people saying it but positivity is essential in your recovery. I had a bad week last week but i have told myself i need to focus on the end result, as we wont be in this situation forever, even if it does take a few months. I hope you have people helping you out while youre in rest xxx

thank you!! it is really frustrating you just dont realise how it can change everything! .. I have an appointment today they said they can cut part of the cast off around my toe to relieve the pressure as I'm not allowed too stand on it! .. appreciate your reply and hope you recover quickly 😃 xxx

when I had my cast I had lots of different twinges and numbness

At times felt like my foot would even swell inside the cast

I could wiggle my toes and for the most part experienced no pain until I began walking in the boot

I think all these little ups and downs are a normal part of the healing but you know your body best and Id only say if you are uncertain about your cast then certainly contact your doctor

Since Ive found this site Ive come to realize how much we all seem to have in common with our injury/recovery path

I had to wear a fiberglass cast for 4weels

I was only supposed to have 2, changed after 2 week period. I ended up having 6 and finally got walking boot Wednesday. I had nothing but problems w the casts, always tight even with alot padding...too tight-toes purple, a dent underneath- sharp pain, rubbed my outside ankle bone raw/ bruised. a wrinkle in the incision. area - after 5 weeks it was bleeding...

I had to keep leg elevated the entire 6 weeks after surgery due to swelling of my foot ever hung down more than 3 minutes. I have had frozen/ numb/ nerve pain in toes that's now spread to mid foot underneath since week one that doesnt let up at all. I've cried alot and sleep is almost impossible unless I'm in an ambien/nyquil state and that's for 5-6 thankful hours. I was hoping the boot would be better, yes no more cast pressure but the under foot pain n toes still there. The Dr/nurses/PT all told me that's nerve pain and unfortunately can last a long time. I was NOT prepared for this and I start next week wondering how can I even walk around on guys and concentrate. PT said I should be on a medication for it

..example gabapentin to help me til its gone but my Dr said no 😦 and I will see you in 6 weeks..ugh! Dr said it's from the nerve Block I received and not what he did... PT said it's the swelling compressing on nerves and everything is firing back up,l. I used ice alot, helped occasionally, yes you feel it right thru the cast

After reading so many posts this isnt uncommon so I'm saying if you have any problem with your cast go in for a recheck, tell them the issues, get extra padding, tell whoever is putting it on everything your feeling and they will do the best they can to help with a new one. I hope this gets better for you, I feel your pain and your not alone
