New Diagnosed!

HI y'all from Dallas TX here! I'm newly unofficially diagnosed, an online Dr mentioned this with my symptoms. Every other Dr has just said abscess. Have any of yall got these on your outer arm? Over like the bicep? How about the outter hips? Mine don't seem to be where any major sweat glands are... but everything else fits to a T. Down to the tunneling! I'm at a loss, Noone knows what it is. But it is so painful! I'll get one, then 3, then 5. All close. My whole arm will swell up! It's terrible. Right now I have both my arms swollen up. 5 abscesses on my right hip an where from dime to baseball size. And a half dollar sized one on my left. Once 1 shows up, then multiple do. None of the ones on my hips are draining, just pushing hard against the surface. I took a scalpel and I&D my left arm. It's draining from 8 places, all the soft spots. So discouraged! Any info will help! Thank yall and God Bless

Hi the first thing you need to do is make an appointment to see a dermatologise for a proper diagnosis.  S/he will also know all the up to date treatments and be able to help you better than any general doctor as most of them have never heard of HS.

The earlier you are diagnosed and treated the less it will spread.

Now the scalpel - please don't do this whatever the tempation.  Firstly you can cause damage to the deeper layers of your skin,  and second this can cause them to spread so instead of having just one abscess you end up with multiple.

The most common places for HS are the underarms,  groin and top of inner thinghs.  You can also get them on your chest,  neck etc.  I have never heard of them on biceps or hips.  It may or may not be HS but like I said you need a firm diagnosis.

In the meantime when you have inflamed asbcesses then antibiotics may help to get the infection down so it can drain and heal.  x

Sorry to hear that your suffering my daughter has hs and she had an alergie test and vitamin and minerals deficiency test which showed that she was dairy intolerant and magnesium very low since changing her diet and taking supplements she is almost in remission. It may be worth looking into. Hope you get some help. A lot of people find that following a paelo diet helps to .

I'm a paramedic, and an ER doctor taught me how to I&Dr them. I was getting then so frequently that the ER Dr said learning to do it myself would save me tens of thousands of dollars. Everytime they would Lance it the sane way I do, then admit me for a week for IV antibiotics. The antibiotics never really helped. I'd go into the hospital with 1 and leave with 3. Steroids have worked wonders! That seems to reduce the edema. I have an apt on Monday. I saw a dermatologist but they said that they thought the wounds were self inflicted. That I was cutting myself and then getting the infection, or that I was injecting something. To a point they are right, I would use sterile lidocaine before doing an I&Dr. Then do the small cut, more like a straight in and out puncture. Anyways they blamed me and said it would go away if I left it alone. Which I did, for months. Still no change, just instead of the I&D I'd let it painfully get ripe and burst on its own, like the one I'm sitting on the tub draining right now!

Katie, I've never heard of it being in the outer arms and hips. I hope it's only abscesses and not HS. Get your dermatologist to do a culture of it to find the medicine to combat it.

I would recommend Emuaid. Purchase from their direct site. It's a homeopathic medicine. I've been suffering with HS for 10 years and last month I purchased a 2oz jar for 58$ and it has worked wonders. It's expensive to buy every month but well worth it. I know a disease like this and being misdiagnosed can be so depressing. Stay encouraged!

Hi katie, before you try anything expensive, try 70mg zinc gluconate tablets, it works for me. , my HS is in remission.

sorry, take 3 a day until the flare-up seems to go down, then go to two a day for a few weeks, then go to 1 a day to keep the HS gone, no side-effects for me after a year.
