hi ...just been diagnosed this week and feeling pretty daunted. I started on the strong steroid cream and appeared to be healing ( large ulcer like patch in skin) however tonight I've noticed it's turned bright red there again ... Is this normal ?

Sorry you're one of us, but you've come to the right place. The cream takes months to really work, so it's likely that the flareup that got you diagnosed is continuing. Some of us find the extra ingredients in the white cream cause a reaction. The ointment doesn't have that stuff. My pharmacist was willing to sell me a refill, but change it to Dermovate (clobetasol) ointment.

Nearly everyone here will tell you to look at your sugar consumption. It and stress (especially both together) are the culprits in many flare-ups. You don't have to root out every molecule of sugar, but if the holidays have been binge-on-sweets time, that needs to end. It will help very quickly.

When you have a raw patch, try and protect it from urine – Vaseline works fine, or coconut oil (the solid stuff you cook with).

A bath with 1/3 cup of baking soda in it is very healing. Even squatting over a basin and splashing (a tbsp of bicarn in that) is good. I do that every night.

Thank you so much for your reply and advice ...I have read about sugar so am trying to reduce my intake ...is there any other food types I ought to be careful with? Thanks once again..I feel pretty awful, at 42 like my life is over ( sex life at least)

Hi nik1974. Newly diagnosed myself last week. This forum and the women on here are just great.... Any questions at all and they will help you. I have been given Eumovate cream and so far it's working a treat. Told to apply twice daily morning and night for three weeks then.... If LS has improved by then I have to reduce it to twice a week as a maintenance measure. I do soooo sympathise with you. I'm a young (?) 59 widowed and have met a lovely man. Like you I feel my sex life is disappearing out the window although I haven't been intimate with him. Positive thinking and we'll get through this and keep it under control. Take care x

If you're being treated, sex is not over. I've had LS (untreated) since I was 22 – I'm 64 now. I had lots of hot sex in my forties and then after a 7-year hiatus, in my late fifties. LS can go into remission – probably when we hit a spell of calm contentment in our lives.

It may take many months to get it settled down, but don't assume it will be like this flare-up forever.

Hi I was diagnosed just prior to Xmas I am 40 and felt so low and very sad about my husband and my future,No it is not all about sex but being intimate is very important and it was this point that made me cry the most. . But I feel better now the itching has settled down. I had a bioposy and that was ok and healed quickly too. I had sex the other day and as long as you relax and use lubricant that is ok too. It feels very unfair that there is hardly any research being done on LS and I am so shocked how many people are on this forum but until a month ago I had never heard of it.

I dont know why you are red there again. Keep going to the doctor until you are ok. If your doctor is not answering your questions I would urge you to find Gyno that has LS patients. Good Luck
